When to prune garden hydrangeas? It turns out that this variety does not require pruning

Few people realize that the garden does not require annual pruning. All because it forms flowers on last year’s shoots. In spring, it is enough to get rid of diseased, frozen and broken twigs – preferably when the hydrangea has already sprouted leaves and the outside temperature will be positive. Thanks to this, it will be much easier to assess which shoots are dead. Before the beginning of vegetation, in March and April, only the inflorescences should be cut. Be careful not to damage the buds of the plant.

Bouquet hydrangea. When to prune?

Bouquet hydrangea is loved by many gardeners because it is not complicated to grow. It blooms on this year’s shoots, so the best time to cut it is the turn of March and April, before the appearance of the first leaves. Young plants should be cut 15-20 cm above the ground to 2/3 of their length, leaving only 2-3 pairs of buds. Every year you can do it higher, deciding yourself about the density and height of the bush. If the shoots are weak, it is worth cutting them to half. It doesn’t really matter if the hydrangea was planted in the fall or elsewhere – pruning should always be done in the spring.

Pruning the bouquet hydrangea every year will ensure that the plant blooms profusely. This is a very important care procedure that should not be forgotten. Similar pruning rules also apply to another variety, the hydrangea.
