We already know all the winners of the Polish Film Awards Eagles. This year’s gala was unique, because it was a jubilee – the awards called “Polish Oscars” were presented for the twenty-fifth time. The event was a great triumph of Polish cinema, but also an opportunity to raise important topics by the gathered artists. One of such people was Dawid Ogrodnik, who won the Eagle for the best leading male role in the film “Johnny”.

It was the third Eagle for the actor. Earlier, he managed to win statuettes for his roles in the films “Live Feels Good” and “Silent Night”. Roleplayer of Fr. Jan Kaczkowski decided to take advantage of the opportunity to speak in front of the audience and in his speech he critically referred to the situation that is happening on the Polish-Belarusian border:
If my hero were with us today, he wouldn’t be here today. He would be with people on the border, they need our solidarity, our support and they are pushed into the dark forest where children die. These children die every day, the situation in Poland is dramatic, that’s why I appeal to everyone, these children reap the harvest of our politics and the country we live in
At the end of his speech, he referred to the award of Maria Pakulnis, who for the first time in her career won the Eagle for her supporting role in the film “Johnny”. He stated that “it’s a shame that such a talented actress had to wait so long for the statuette”.
The actress burst into tears as she stepped onto the stage. As it turned out, she could not contain her emotions, because it was a special moment for the actress. In 1998, together with Piotr Machalica, she hosted the first Eagles gala, which she mentioned in her speech: “Today is also a special moment for me. Because the memories came back. 25 years ago, Piotruś Machalica and I hosted the Eagles for the first time.”

In the “Best Film” category, the picture won by Jerzy Skolimowski entitled “IO”. The production won a total of six “Polish Oscars”, including the best director. In the competition for the statuette for the best film, “IO” defeated “Silent Twins” by Agnieszka Smoczyńska, “Woman on the Roof” by Anna Jadowska, “Bread and Salt” by Damian Kocur and “Johnny” by Daniel Jaroszek. Skolimowski’s film also has a chance to win an Oscar in the best international film category.
