“We wanted to reach the last instance, I deserved it”: Miguel Melfi breaks his silence about his legal process against Mauricio Altamirano ‘el cuya’

On Wednesday, February 15 of this year, Mauricio Altamirano, better known as Showbiz Cuy, was found guilty in a trial promoted by Panamanian Miguel Melfi (winner The power of love) against him following a complaint for expressions that allegedly hurt his honor.

According to the verdict in the case, which was just published on the website of the Satje judicial system, the journalist must pay the artist an amount of 12,000 dollars and serve a prison sentence of fifteen days. In addition, he ordered a public apology on his social media profiles. Both parties in the process were waiting for the written sentence to be able to execute it.

To date, Melfi has not ruled on the resolution in his favor, as apparently happened with Altamirano, who, according to a report from the program Los hackers de la farándula, gave interviews on the subject to other media.

In this very space broadcast by Ecuavisa, the panelists showed a short clip in which the rising Panamanian singer finally comments on the situation and his expectations after the sentencing.

“What did we want? Go to the last instance. Because? Because I think that I deserve it and my family deserves it, a little peace after the embarrassment, the invention that was made to generate and everything that has been talked about for the past year”, the interpreter began to explain his position.

In addition, he clarified that he did not file the complaint in order to attract attention, and asks that attention not be diverted as a xenophobic topic. “Don’t let them confuse you with comments like this, as if this was a case to make a face, to get some money, from a nationalist case in which a Panamanian went against an Ecuadorian. This is not like this. I am a normal person who simply wanted to exercise my rights as each of you should if you were in my place.

Miguel Melfi, who along with Ecuadorian Andreína Bravo was one of the winners of the first edition of the Latin American version of the Turkish reality show El poder del amor, confirmed that he wants justice to be served.

Even knowing that he was about to prescribe (the cause) and that he would not charge a cent of what was said, that he would not even see the person go to jail… even knowing that none of these things that were to happen, what what I wanted was to prove guilt and for justice to be served if there is a precedent”.

Melfi filed a complaint against Maurici Altamirano due to some expressions during last year’s variety show on YouTube, in which he allegedly claimed that the foreigner had intimate relations with another journalist.

The reporter better known as El Cuy was prosecuted for the criminal offense defined in Art. 396 of the COIP relating to misdemeanors of the fourth class, which punishes a person who in any way expresses shame or dishonor against another by imprisonment for 15 to 30 days.
