A touching letter from a woman whose activist helped with an abortion. “It was not an expression of empathy. Doctors and doctors failed”

A moving letter written by Ania was sent to our editorial office by the activists of the Abortion Dream Team. The woman thanked Justyna Wydrzyñska for her help in obtaining access to pharmacological abortion, which she could not use in the end anyway. “Justyna, thank you for being the only one of the few to help me in the most difficult moment of my life,” writes Anna.

Justyna Wydrzyńska, pro-choice activists from the Aborcyjne Dream Team, was sued for helping one of the women in need to access abortion during the lockdown by donating early-morning pills.

In the end, the woman did not take the pills because her former partner notified the police, who confiscated them. She did not carry the pregnancy to term because she had a miscarriage a few days later.

The fact that the activist helps women assert their rights is no secret and she openly informs about it on the web.

It’s no secret that I help with abortions. What I do is good. I am not advising anyone to have an abortion. I inform you about what the WHO writes on its website

– said Wydrzyńska at one of the hearings. The person she helped was a victim of domestic violence. – I do not regret (…). This woman was in a terrible situation – she said in an interview with “Wysokie Obcasy”.

Ania thanks Justyna for her help in obtaining abortion pills. “How much is a human life worth?”

On Monday, March 6, we received a message to our inbox from activists of the Abortion Dream Team. They were written by a woman known as Anna (name changed), to whom Justyna Wydrzyńska gave abortion pills during the pandemic. Anna also testifies in court in the activist’s trial.

In touching words, the woman thanked the activist for her help, dedication, support and commitment. Below we publish her letter, which was attached to the files in the court case.

For many days I have been imagining the moment when I will stand in front of you and look you straight in the eye. I was wondering how I should behave and, above all, what I should say. What words to use so that they are adequate to the situation

– writes Ania in a moving letter.

And I have to admit that I couldn’t find such words. Well, how much is a human life worth? And what is my life worth? Does it have any objective value at all? I cannot answer these questions. But I can say one thing. I want to live and I have someone to live for

he adds.

“It wasn’t an expression of empathy. It was an expression of humanity.”

“That’s why I decided that in this situation it would be best to use the simple word “thank you”. I’m sorry, but I really couldn’t find a better word, “we read.

Ms. Justyna, thank you for the fact that in the most difficult moment of my life, when my closest relatives, as well as doctors and doctors – failed, you were the only one of the few who helped me

Anna writes.

She further mentions that reading various interviews with Justyna Wydrzyńska, she came across her statement about “expression of empathy”. “I’m sorry, but I don’t agree with you,” she concluded.

NO. It wasn’t empathy. It was an expression of humanity. Because in a situation where people who had a moral and some of them also a legal obligation to help me, stood aside washing their hands, and you gave me your hand. It’s a really big thing. And I congratulate you on that

– underlines.

She further points out that despite the fact that three years have passed since the described events, she is still most touched by the activist’s words that she would do it again. “I feel that these words were addressed to me and I thank you for them. These are one of the most important words I have ever heard from another person in my life. Thank you” – she concludes.

The first such case in Poland

The ongoing trial of Justyna Wydrzyńska is the first case of this type in Poland in which the accused is an activist, not a family member or a doctor. It should be emphasized that the activist is supported by many circles and institutions, both Polish and foreign. As indicated by the Oko.press portal, a letter in defense of Wydrzyńska has already been written by four special rapporteurs of the United Nations for human rights and a member of Renew Europe – a party in the European Parliament.

Several hearings have already been held in the case of Justyna Wydrzyńska, the court has still not issued a verdict. The next one will take place in less than a week, on March 14. A solidarity picket is also planned for this day. “We will see each other at the Warsaw court at Poligonowa 3, to support each other with Ania, Justyna and other abortion activists at the last trial,” the activists inform.

Justyna Wydrzyńska may face up to three years in prison.

Let us remind you that after the Constitutional Tribunal of Julia Przyłębska outlawed abortion due to severe, irreversible damage to the fetus, organizations such as Aborcyjny Dream Team or Aborcja without Borders are the only support for women who find themselves in a critical situation. ANDTheir activists provide information on where it is safe and legal to undergo the procedure, watch over and instruct in the field of pharmacological abortion, and offer assistance in organizing trips abroad to terminate pregnancy.
