It has been a long time coming, but the response from Chris Rock to Will Smith for his slap at last year’s Oscars has come in the form of a monologue. The comedian has released everything he had inside in a monologue at the Hippodrome Theater in Baltimore, during a live Netflix show.
In his speech, he acknowledged having seen ‘Emancipation’, Smith’s last film, to see him “be whipped“, shouting “hit him again” or “you have left an area”. Rock assures that Smith is “significantly older” than him, showing his admiration for the actor. “Will Smith played Muhammad Ali in a movie, do you think that I’m going to stick with him?”, he wonders.
However, he accuses him of carrying out “selective anger“. “Everyone knows what happened, I had nothing to do with it, I had not had any ‘entanglement’“Rock says, referring to Jada Smith’s confession about her relationship with August Alsina, her son’s friend, when he and Will Smith were hanging out.
“We’ve all been fooled. Everyone in this industry has been fooled. None of us have ever been interviewed by the person who fooled us on TV. None of us… Why the fuck would you do that shit? She hurt him a lot more than he did me.“, it states.
Chris Rock continued his speech by recalling that “everyone” called Will Smith “a whore”, comments to which he did nothing. “Who did he hit? Me, someone you can beat“, he joked to the applause of the public.
