The optimal time is the end of March and the beginning of April (no later than April 10), but the factor determining successful cultivation is favorable weather. Garlic placed in the ground at this time will be ready to harvest as early as late July or August. For cultivation, it is worth choosing a well-sunshine place with fertile, humus and moist soil. If you don’t have one in your garden, you can fertilize the soil with manure, but this will delay the garlic planting by a year. Before taking action, it is worth paying attention to planting only healthy specimens and getting rid of those that have been mechanically damaged or have signs of rotting.
How to plant garlic? Give it enough space and it will grow luxuriantly
Before you plant the prepared garlic heads, you need to divide them into individual cloves – each of them should have a heel. Make good use of those of medium and large size, because the yield will not be too abundant from small ones. The next step is to prepare the soil properly. Dig it in rows about 10-15 cm apart, and then bury each clove with the heel down to a depth of 3-5 cm. Avoid planting garlic in soil where bulbs previously grew, as there is a good chance it will not grow.
Garlic can be harvested when most of the chives are broken or dried, which is usually mid-July. Just dig up the heads, shorten the stems to about 3 cm, cut the roots and store it in a dry and cool place.
