Shakira’s interview with Mexican journalist Enrique Acevedo continues to give people something to talk about. In this first televised interview after the separation from the father of her children, Gerard Piqué, the woman from Barranquilla attracted the attention of some of her followers with her posts, but also with her way of speaking.
Loyal followers of the artist heard from her mouth how the process she went through in recent months and how she found an outlet in music. But they noticed in his voice ia Spanish accent that he released excerpts that did not go unnoticed by the public.
“Bizarrap gave me a chance to vent and it was necessary for my healing,” admits Shakira in her first television interview

Shakira currently resides in Spain, the country she has moved to since starting a relationship with a soccer player. And although she’s now waiting to change her residence to Miami, it’s inevitable that the Barranquilla native hasn’t picked up a bit of her Spanish accent, which some of her fans don’t really like.

“The love that Shakira has for Piqué is incredible, he even speaks with a Spanish accent”, “He lost his Colombian accent”, “It changed everything for the man, even his accent. Girls, never stop being who you are”, “How funny with that Spanish accent, funny Colombian speech”, are the comments of followers on one of the clips of the interview published on Instagram.
‘I’ve always been emotionally dependent in my relationships’: Shakira finds acceptance and confirms that even though her dreams weren’t fulfilled with Piqué, she’s enough on her own to move on with her life
Despite the criticism, Shakira’s fan base did not hesitate to come to her defense. One of her followers argued in favor of the Colombian that she simply imitated her son’s accent when he suggested her to work with Bizarrap. “He hasn’t lost his Colombian accent, he imitates his son and then goes on with his accent,” he said.
Shakira faces criticism
This is not the first time Shakira has received criticism for adopting a Spanish accent. In 2021, Univisón reviewed the negative comments she received at one point when she posted a video in which she talked about her love for playing the drums. There was not a trace of his Colombian accent in it.

In another video from 2018, the singer of “La tortura” can be seen welcoming her ex-husband’s grandmother to one of her concerts and a distinct Spanish accent is noted. Criticism was not long in coming, and some pointed out that she had forgotten her native Colombia.

Among the comments on the post, one could read “the Spanish accent is more fake…”, “Oh Shak, I miss that coastal accent”, “and where’s the Colombian accent?” and other style messages.
The artist has also received criticism for leaving messages written in English on her Instagram account, such as the one she posted on December 24, 2022, considering that her native language is Spanish, Semana notes. (AND)
