This is how this year the meeting will feature the performance of writers from various countries: Taiwan, Spain, China, Portugal, Japan, Cameroon, Argentina, Ukraine, Angola, Congo, Syria, Uruguay, Korea, Morocco, Bangladesh, Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Cuba, Costa Rica, England and Ecuador.
Important international poets are added to the event, such as Antonio Gamoneda, Nuno Júdice, Darío Jaramillo Agudelo, Kemadjou Raconteur, Tseng Kuei-Hais, Rafael Courtoisie, Wu Ching-Fa, Luis Armenta Malpica, Sungrye Han, Razu Alauddin, Xue Nü, Reina María Rodríguez, among others.
“We are happy because every time the festival is reaching more distant places, and to be able to count in the same week with so many voices and so many different languages (…). I believe that we are the only festival, in all the arts, that brings together exponents from all over the world “, mentions Augusto Rodriguez, director of the festival, who indicates that musicians will also participate.

As is the tradition of the festival, the work of some guests will be recognized. Rodríguez indicates that the award for editorial career will be awarded to the Spanish publisher Manolo Borrás. The lifetime achievement award will go to the Spanish poet Antonio Gamoneda. Meanwhile, the national award will go to the poet from Esmeralda Antonio Preciado, who will also be in charge of opening the literary meeting.
Among the activities that will take place within the framework of the festival are talks, the reading of poems, the presentation of books and internal workshops. In addition, a memory book will be published.
The poetry award this year was won by Lojana Thalia Andrea Rojas Vasquez, for his set of poems called Call me ismael. In this regard, Rodríguez mentions that approximately 100 jobs from all over the country applied for the call.

Rodríguez maintains that the main motivation to continue holding the festival is to honor the memory of Ileana Espinel. “We have always wanted to remember her legacy, because we think she is a tremendous and important poet, not only from Guayaquil, but for Latin America.”. At the same time, it highlights the interculturality that is achieved with the meeting. “Our motivation is to live this party and the brotherhood that exists between these spaces, and the dialogue that is generated”, he says.
“I think that poetry is one of the deepest languages. Literature itself immerses itself in the human soul, but I think poetry goes deeper. So, it is like rediscovering and entering into dialogues with the deepest and most beautiful that human beings can have ”, adds the also poet and editor of El Quirófano.
