Last Sunday, the Irish newspaper “Belfast Telegraph” has given new facts about the brutal attack that occurred at a wedding in August 2022 at the hands of the groom. The 30-year-old was getting married in a hotel in Portadown (Northern Ireland). A man from Armagh attacked his newlywed wife.
According to Belfast Telegraph, his case was handed down a week ago at Craigavon Court. The man was sentenced by the court to four months in prison. The assault – as judge Bernie Kelly emphasized – took place when the three children of the couple were nearby.
He brutally beat his wife at his own wedding. He got out of jail on bail
I have no other option than to take this (incident – ed.) seriously. There’s only one punishment I can give
he said in justification.
However, the 30-year-old is at large and awaiting appeal. In the end, he spent only a few hours behind bars. He was released after paying bail.
The scenes that took place in August last year were described by the local media as horrific and extremely brutal. The entire incident was recorded by hotel cameras. Writes Belfast Telegrapha few hours after the wedding ceremony, there was an argument in the corridor between the spouses.
During the trial, the prosecutor said that the then 30-year-old “put his forehead to the forehead of the bride, then swung and aggressively hit her head”. According to local media, the video also showed the moment when the aggressive man “hit her head with his fist and threw her against the wall, causing her dress to partially fall off.”
After the attack, the 30-year-old was to return to the guests playing at the wedding.
“I want to make up for it”
The police arrested him the day after the wedding.
He knows he must be punished. He is deeply ashamed. He wants to compensate and put this incident behind him, and try, if possible, to rebuild what he had before him
– the defender of the 30-year-old was to say, quoted by the “Belfast Telegraph”.
“She attacked with a ponytail made of hair”
When the uniforms detained the perpetrator of the attack, he was still wearing a wedding suit, and there were traces of blood on it. During interrogation, he confessed to brutally beating his wife. He also claimed, which he repeatedly emphasized, that earlier the woman was supposed to “grab him by the throat, threaten him and attack him with a ponytail made of hair, leaving marks on his ear.”
