David and Victoria Beckham have become icons of fashion, sports and music throughout their careers. On February 14, 2023, on the occasion of Valentine’s Day, the couple decided to share a romantic memory from 1999 on their social media.

26 years old and you are still my valentine I love you so much – Victoria Beckham wrote in the caption.

They fell in love at first sight. “This girl will be my wife”

Their story began in 1997. Although the couple grew up only 15 minutes apart in London, they didn’t meet until many years later at a football match. Victoria Adams, the famous member of the Spice Girls, came to see the Manchester United match where David Beckham played. They met after the game, but the footballer’s shyness got the better of him, and he only said hello from across the room. Then he thought he had lost his chance. The footballer, before they met live, saw his future wife on TV. In 2008, on the Ellen DeGeneres show, he confessed:

I was in a hotel room with my best friend who was my best man at my wedding. I remember turning around – before I even met Victoria – and saying, This girl is going to be my wife

However, on Victoria’s part, this love story had a different beginning. The singer revealed in 2016 that she had no interest in football, and during their first meeting, she did not know who David Beckham was. However, during the second meeting, a week later, the couple became closer. During the interview, she said:

We chatted for about an hour in the players lounge, and then I got on the train. I wrote my number on the train ticket that David still has.

Victoria said she was captivated by David’s family nature. She recalled in her statement the situation where other footballers stand at the bar and drink, and you will see David standing next to his family.

Marriage and family enlargement. “I immediately felt like we were always meant for each other”

Soon after, David and Victoria fell in love. As the relationship began to blossom, the couple was dubbed Posh and Becks by the media and press – and so it has remained to this day. David and Victoria Beckham announced their engagement in 1998. Just a year later, they revealed that they were expecting their first child. Victoria later revealed in her autobiography Learning to Fly that she wanted to give her son a “boyish” name. She explained this by saying that she expects her son to follow in his father’s footsteps as a footballer.

I always liked the name Brooke, and then suddenly we thought of Brooklyn. I’ve always liked this place as a place. It is very multicultural, firmly established. It wasn’t until later that I realized how appropriate it was because it was in New York that I found out I was pregnant.

Shortly after the birth of their first son, they married on July 4, 1999, at Luttrellstown Castle in Ireland. On September 1, 2002, their second son, Romeo, was born. On February 20, 2005, Cruz, the third son, was born. On July 10, 2011, the Beckhams welcomed their fourth child. They named their daughter Harper Seven. The middle name is a nod to the number on David’s soccer jersey. W wrote:

My wife picked me out of a soccer sticker book. And I picked it from the TV… I immediately felt like we were always meant for each other.

Being married for so long is always hard work, everyone knows that. The secret is to survive difficult situations, such as traveling, being away from each other. This allows you to test if it works.

The footballer also revealed that he and his wife make it a priority to spend time together in their busy schedules.
