This character trait shortens life, destroys relationships and, according to the latest research, causes a number of diseases. If you are its owner, it is better to say goodbye to it.
Cynicism can be toxic. It negatively affects our life and health
Cynicism is a trait that develops in us over the years. It is often the result of unresolved emotions, disappointments and hurt. Cynicism is often a way of coping with pain and distrust. Cynicism in itself is not an emotion, it is a trait that we are not born with, but that we acquire, create during life.
According to the dictionary of the Polish language, cynicism is a life attitude characterized by non-recognition of the applicable ethical principles and a disregard for generally respected concepts, rights and people. The cynic, focused on his comfort, is an easy victim of consumer trends, fads and whims.
Although at first glance it may seem that cynicism gives us a protective shield, protects us from hurt and disappointment, the final cost of living in cynicism can be very high.

How can cynicism destroy health and shorten our lives?
According to a 2007 study published in Archives of Internal Medicine, cynical people are statistically more likely to lead an unhealthy lifestyle, become addicted to e.g. nicotine or suffer from obesity, which creates more risk factors for heart disease.
It has been proven that cynics are more likely to suffer from cancer and dementia. Many people who suffer from depression are also cynics. This can result in prolonged depression and a more difficult treatment process.

According to research, cynics have lower incomes than people without this trait
As emphasized by Dr. Bruce Hutchison in the pages of psychologytoday.com cynicism is invisible and hidden, yet deadly and dangerous. It has been found that cynical people earn less than those with a more optimistic disposition and approach to life.
Actor Tom Hanks spoke about the problem of cynicism in one of his recent interviews:
Cynicism has become a default part of everyday structure and everyday human relationships. We got used to it […] I think we’re allowed to feel good. There is room for cynicism, but why always start with it?
We should not let cynicism guide us. If we have been hurt regularly in our lives, we lose trust in people and cynicism begins to overwhelm us. Without working on ourselves, cynicism develops in us and negatively affects all areas of our lives. We start looking at the world in black and white colors and stop seeing the shades of gray that make the world beautiful. We stop opening up to people and take away opportunities to enjoy life.
If you consider yourself a cynic, it is worth starting work to eliminate or at least minimize its impact on your life.
