Beata Kozidrak: Dad told me “I will grow a cactus if you get money from it” [WYWIAD]

The new album was created in cooperation with Mariusz Obijalski and Arek Kopera. The 12 songs on the album include: a duet with Kamil Bednarek “Running”, “ballad “Angel and the Devil” or “Take it easy”.

Beata Kozidrak says:

I’m talking about not worrying about what they think about you, what they write about you. This world is built in such a way that we have to watch all the time: how you look at me, what you like, what you don’t like… judging. I have something in me that until I meet someone, I don’t judge them, because I don’t know them. This album says it too: take it easy.

Beata Kozidrak about the beginning of her career: Parents were against it, especially dad

This is the fourth solo album of the singer, who has been the vocalist of Bajm since 1978. She started in high school, with the band she took second place in the “Debuts” competition at the 16th National Song Festival in Opole. Although she comes from a musical family (she founded Bajm, among others, with her brother Jarosław), her parents were not delighted that she wanted to connect her life with the stage:

The singer was associated with such a life in a rather difficult environment, a bit pathological, so they were against it, especially dad. He once told me, ‘I’ll grow a cactus if you make money from it.’

– I understand it now, I have children, I know what it means to fear for their future. Then there were times like this: paper, go to college and then a stable job – it was a success. Where am I to the stage, right? It was all so fleeting, my dad was just worried about my future. When I came back from Opole, he was so proud. Because I was normally dressed. That was important too. Later he saw me in these dresses with holes, all sorts of strange ones, which I made for myself. But I was in all this – I was looking for myself, my personality, then there was no one to draw from – Kozidrak recalls.

What about the film about Beata Kozidrak?

In 2021, Beata Kozidrak announced that a biographical film would be made, to be directed by Piotr Domalewski (“Silent Night”, “Hyacinth”). At what stage is this project?

He is still at the stage of searching for the main character, because this proposal that was given to me – I don’t see it. I just have my opinion on certain topics, because this will be my next discovery.

The singer admits that she does not have a specific actress in mind at the moment and adds that she does not want to rush anything, do it by force. “It must be cool,” he says.
