Beata Kozidrak for Gazeta.pl: I never counted on our system and my retirement

– I don’t know how it can help. My life has taught me to invest. I have never counted on our system, pension or state protection – says Beata Kozidrak when asked about the widely discussed issue of starvation pensions of Polish stars.

Beata Kozidrak has just released a new solo album “4B” and on this occasion she gave an interview to Gazeta.pl. In addition to musical inspirations, in an interview with Marta Korycka, the artist honestly told, among others, about how she managed to juggle big success and family life at a young age, as well as the film biography she announced some time ago. The entire interview will be available on Saturday, February 25 on the main page of the Gazeta.pl portal.

Kozidrak on pensions: Life taught me how to invest

The conversation with Beata Kozidrak touched on the issue of low pensions of Polish artists. When asked about this, the singer replied:

I don’t know what it might help. My life has taught me to invest. I never counted on our system, pension or state protection. Once, as one of many companies, I received a subsidy at a time when I could help my employees. Because they had nothing to live on during the pandemic.

She also recalled that this case aroused a lot of controversy at the time:

Like many artists, I got hit for it. But I didn’t take it personally at all, because the most important moment was when I could genuinely help them. I knew that they would not go to another country, but would stay with me and then we would continue to play concerts together.

The discussion on low pension benefits among representatives of artistic professions does not subside. Many people who have worked on Polish stages for several dozen years are unable to make a living from the benefits granted to them by ZUS. People such as Laura Łącz, Tomasz Stockinger, Krzysztof Cugowski or Marek Piekarczyk admit in interviews that they must constantly work, otherwise they would not be able to afford to live. In one of the conversations, Beata Tyszkiewicz confessed that she gets PLN 1,300, and Maryla Rodowicz, in turn, has about PLN 1,670. It was also loud that Krzysztof Cugowski and Alicja Majewska receive payments of about PLN 1,000.

In 2021, the president of ZUS, Professor Gertruda Uścińska, commented sharply on the matter in one of her interviews. – In many cases, freelancers, artists conclude contracts for specific work, which do not give rise to any social insurance obligation. There is a principle of reciprocity, proportionality and adequacy. If we pay little to ZUS, the benefit is also low, she noted.

– You can say this: you have to pay contributions to build pension capital. There are cases that such people have no pension contributions on our account at all, and in public debates they sharply claim that they are without a salary, said the president of ZUS.
