The case of the disappearance of Monika Bielawska from Legnica in the Dolnośląskie Voivodship was the subject of the whole of Poland. Although three years ago there was a chance for a breakthrough in this story, unfortunately DNA tests ruled out hopes of solving the case. At that time, 27-year-old Kelly, who is a US citizen, thought she might be a girl from Poland who had disappeared years ago. On this, however, and the family still hopes to find Monika Bielawska.

The history of the whole family was brought closer thanks to the journalist of “Fakt” Katarzyna Kowalczyk, who in 2020 reached the previously unknown files of the case of Monika Bielawska’s disappearance. 21-year-old Robert B. and 18-year-old Magdalena got married and then moved in with the girl’s parents. This decision resulted from the fact that the man did not have a stable source of income. He supported himself by trading gold at the city market in Legnica and by playing the so-called. three cards. This situation suited Robert, who did not want changes in his life. So when he found out that his wife was pregnant, he was to persuade her to have an abortion. However, Magdalena decided to give birth to a child. Later, during the trial, the woman said:

He even gave me money to have an abortion.

In March 1993, Monika was born. However, the birth of a child did not change the young father’s attitude. The case files indicate that “Robert B. had a definitely negative attitude towards his daughter Monika.” He also did not participate in the upbringing of the child and repeatedly complained about the expenses associated with the care. He bluntly often repeated in the presence of relatives that “you have to sell this brat, or at least there will be dollars.” In court, Magdalena revealed:

He said that the little one annoyed him, he explained that I only take care of the child, and I do not devote time to him. He even accused me of not loving him anymore, that I only loved this brat.

The case file shows that the child was afraid of his father. At the sight of him, her hands covered her mouth, and there were traces of pinching on her body. Little Monika was also kicked and punched in the face in front of her mother. On December 17, 1993, Robert B. applied for his daughter to be entered in his passport, and Magdalena did not object. This allowed him to cross the line with her. The mother did not suspect anything, as they planned to move to Italy in the future and her passport had expired. The case file noted that the man also said at the time that “no one will be watching her soon.”

In 1994, the girl’s grandparents decided to go to the doctor with little Monika, because the child fell ill. Robert B ran after them and surprised them with his unexpected protectiveness. They weren’t concerned about the stuffed plastic bag he had with him. When the three of them reached the clinic, the man disappeared somewhere for half an hour. Then, when they went to a nearby pharmacy, the father, who stayed with the child, walked away with the stroller towards the payphones outside the post office and called an unknown number. Approx. At 10.00 in the morning, he unexpectedly disappeared along with the pram in which 16-month-old Monika was. The family decided to notify the police as the man did not appear until 3.00 p.m.

The search by the police did not bring any results, and the father of . One of the key clues during the investigation was the assumption that she might have been kidnapped by Robert B. The police searched for the man unsuccessfully for the following years. Julia Markowska, the grandmother of the missing Monika Bielawska, said in an interview with a reporter of the “Intervention” program:

We were with my husband, granddaughter and Robert at the doctor’s. I went to the pharmacy to buy medicine for my child. Robert stayed with the child. When I left the pharmacy, they were gone.

The breakthrough came in 2008, when the father of the missing girl received a safe conduct and appeared in Poland. The court found him guilty of kidnapping and selling his daughter to an unknown person and sentenced him to 15 years in prison. The man has been serving a sentence since 2013. During the course of the investigation, the father repeatedly changed his testimony and maintained his innocence. The version with the kidnapping and sale of the child outside of Poland appeared several times. what really happened to little Monika, but the court has no doubt that it is the father who is responsible.
