We recently wrote about problems with acoustics in blocks of flats and neighborly quarrels in an article . It turns out that conflicts due to noise are common not only in Polish construction. A resident of Great Britain who starts work at 6 am confronts her neighbor every day. Just as he enters the bathroom to get ready to leave, the man slams his broomstick against the ceiling. Her story was reported by Mirror.co.uk.
It doesn’t matter what I’m doing, whether I’m flushing or getting in the shower. The pounding begins immediately
– he laments.
The neighbor hits the ceiling. “It’s bullying”
As the woman confessed, the man probably sleeps all day. Sometimes it hits the ceiling even in the middle of the day. He did this, for example, when she bent down to water the flowers and tapped her knee on the floor.
Then he got really angry
he recalls. The woman believes that such behavior of the neighbor can be classified as violence and abuse.
On the one hand, it could be considered that the man’s behavior is malice. On the other hand, the same can be said of a woman who takes a shower before the end of curfew – after all, she could take a bath in the evening. The truth is, however, that the acoustics in the building are to blame for the conflict between the neighbors.
They both have the right to peace and privacy in their own four corners, and knee tapping on the floor is not a sound that should be heard in the apartment downstairs. However, the problem of poor sound insulation in buildings is common.
My upstairs neighbors are moving furniture or vacuuming. Regardless of the time, I know it wouldn’t be a problem if the walls, floors and ceilings weren’t paper thin

It is possible to soundproof ceilings, walls and floors on your own, but it is an expensive solution and requires renovation to be fully effective. It will be less expensive to mitigate the reflection of sound from walls, ceilings and furniture by placing carpets, curtains and other “soft” elements in the room.
