Natalia de Barbara about freedom: For me it is the most important word ex aqeuo with love

– For me, these two words – love and freedom – sometimes compete with each other in everyday life, but in fact there is no contradiction between them, in fact I think that they really feed them – says Natalia de Barbara, author of the book “Yarn”.

What is freedom for the author of the best-selling The Tender Guide?

It’s not that I’m leaving, dropping everything and going around the world and not caring about the people I love. For me, freedom is about choosing what serves me, and not what is dictated to me or what was dictated to me when, for example, I was in a state of such natural subordination as a child sometimes is in a school bench or at home family.

In the next series of conversations with writers, which can also be listened to as a podcast “Dobrze Read, Dobrze Listen” Publio.pl (the whole thing is available from February 24), we talk about Natalia de Barbara’s new book “Yarn”.

About the book “Yarn. In search of inner freedom”

Natalia de Barbara says about her new book: This book is born in me from a mixture of feelings. The first is sadness – because I look very closely at the women who remain motionless, although, paradoxically, they are in constant motion.

In conversations with my friends, in the stories of the participants of my workshops, in the letters from the readers of “The Tender Guide”, the theme of living in entanglement, of living a life that is not your own, keeps coming back. It makes me feel a great loss, some complete nonsense. Then there is indignation. And – finally – the hope that we can meet and that this meeting will be important for you and me. I see it as a kind of quest together to find inner freedom – not the kind of freedom that someone is supposed to give you or me, but the kind of freedom we can find inside ourselves.
