Immediately after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, power in Great Britain was transferred to her eldest son, Charles III. However, the official coronation will take place in a few months. Preparations for the ceremony are extensive, and the future king takes care of every little detail, even the music.

Although Charles III has been acting as king for over five months, the official takeover of power will take place in another dozen or so weeks. The related celebrations have been planned for as many as three days, and many attractions will await the gathered, including live music prepared on special request for the future event.

The coronation ceremony as the ruler of the United Kingdom is scheduled for May 6, 2023 and will begin with a service at Westminster Abbey. The last time such a ceremony took place 70 years ago, so it’s no wonder that Buckingham Palace makes every effort to ensure that the whole world talks about the event. The future king is also actively involved in the organization of the ceremony, having placed a special order with eminent British composers for this occasion.

The future cares about making the ceremony unique and special. And it will certainly be so, because during the coronation as many as 12 pieces will be performed, composed at the special request of the king by the most recognized British composers.

The repertoire consulted with Charles III included 6 orchestral works, 5 choral songs and one organ composition. The future king also decided to honor the memory of his father, the late Prince Philip, for whom the Byzantine Choral Ensemble will perform a Greek-Orthodox piece referring to his origin.
