Bailey stayed at a shelter in El Paso for over a year, and when she was finally adopted and went to her new home, she was missing for 36 hours. It turned out that she ran as much as 16 kilometers to return to the shelter.

Bailey was living at the Animal Rescue League in El Paso and was looking for a home. The carers found a new owner for her, but he gave her back after three days. When the female dog was adopted again, she decided to run away.

The guardian wanted to find Bailey at all costs, because he was afraid that something bad might have happened to her – she could have been in an accident, attacked by a wild animal or another dog, or she was lost and couldn’t find her way home. The search lasted until late at night, but was unsuccessful.

At 1:15 a.m., 36 hours after the disappearance, a shelter worker heard a notification ring from the shelter’s monitoring app. When she looked at the screen, she saw glowing eyes. It turned out to be Bailey. The distance from the new house to was 16 kilometers. Volunteers and shelter staff marveled at how the dog found her way back. The employee rushed to the spot and let Bailey into the facility, fearing she might run away again. She fed her, and when the female dog was full, she went to sleep.
