Based on a true memoir, The Exorcist of the Pope directed by Julius Avery will hit Polish cinemas on April 23, 2023. It will focus on the legendary Italian priest who performed exorcisms for the Vatican around the world. Here’s what the trailer looks like:

Gabriele Amorth was born on May 1, 1925 in Modena and died on September 16, 2016 in Rome. From 1985 he was the official exorcist of the Vatican and the Diocese of Rome. On his initiative, in 1990, the International Association of Exorcists was established, of which he was the president until his retirement in 2000 – he was 75 at the time. At that time, it was also reported that he had performed 50,000 exorcisms that lasted from a few minutes to several hours.
Father Amorth reported in March 2010 that he had already performed 70,000 exorcisms, and by May 2013 this number was to increase to 160,000. The clergyman emphasized that these numbers indicate prayers said and rituals performed, not how many people he exorcised. One person may require up to several hundred attempts, he noted. When asked if Satan could strike inside the Vatican, he replied that he had already done so in 1981, when there was an attack on John Paul II.
Gabriele Amorth described his experiences in two books and numerous articles, some of which were also published in Polish translation (including “Confessions of an exorcist” and “Memoirs of an exorcist. My life in the fight against Satan”).

Evan Spiliotopulos (“The Sanctuary”), R. Dean McCreary and Chester Hastings wrote the screenplay based on the priest’s memoirs. It was directed by Julis Avery, known for “Operation Overload”, and starred in the lead role.
