Adventure writer Wilbur Smith dies at 88

The author of adventure novels Wilbur Smith, born in present-day Zambia into a family of British origin in 1933, He died this Saturday at the age of 88 at his home in South Africa, his editors have announced.

In a message posted on the writer’s website, they have explained that Smith “passed away unexpectedly” at his Cape Town home, “after a morning reading and writing with his wife, Niso”.

Smith published his first novel, ‘When lions eat‘, in 1964, and since then has published 49 books and sold more than 140 million of copies in more than 30 languages. The author, who was married up to four times, also created with his last wife a foundation to promote reading and writing among the youngest.

“I’ve had hard times, bad marriages, people I loved dying in my arms, I burned the midnight oil to nowhere, but in the end everything has added to a wonderful and phenomenal life. I want to be remembered as someone who gave pleasure to millions, “he himself affirmed in his memoirs, published in 2018.

“We are very grateful to his millions of fans around the world who have treasured his incredible writing and have accompanied us all in his amazing adventures,” have now assured his editors, who have not clarified the cause of his death.
