“Dogs” flew on television with censorship. The station defends itself against a penalty from the National Broadcasting Council

The surprise of the viewers of the “Zoom” station must have been enormous when it turned out that the cult film “Psy” had been censored. Television silenced all profanity, which is not lacking in the dialogues of this production. This is the aftermath of a surprising fine that the National Broadcasting Council imposed in 2022 on another TV channel for broadcasting “Psy” at an allegedly too early time.

According to the director of the film, “” is too vulgar to be broadcast before 11 pm. In the eyes of the regulator, only adult viewers should watch it, which is why the Stopklatka station was fined PLN 20,000 in 2022. The reason was marking “Dogs” with the age category “from 16 years old” and displaying the title at 8 pm.

After the penalty from the National Broadcasting Council, television censored “Psy”

When on March 20, 2022, Stopklatka showed “Psy” on its air at 8 pm and marked the production as suitable for viewers over 16 years of age, according to the National Broadcasting Council, it violated Article 18 of the Broadcasting Act. This applies to e.g. qualifying the age categories of broadcasts and other media messages that may have a negative impact on the proper development (physical, mental or moral) of minors.

Due to the brutal scenes shown in “Dogs”, as well as profanity or intimate scenes, the cult film is, according to the regulator, only suitable for adult viewers. Therefore, it should only be aired between 11pm and 6am.

Zoom station aired “Psy” on Saturday, February 25 at 20.45 with the designation “16+”. However, to avoid punishment, the profanity in the soundtrack was muted. The press office of the Kino Polska TV Group, which includes both Stopklatka and Zoom TV, provided:

On Zoom TV, “Psy” is shown in the 16+ age category, so the broadcast of the film had to be adapted to the applicable legal regulations.

Modeled on American genre cinema, ‘Psy’ was supposed to be a counter to the cinema of moral anxiety and a change of perspective on the divisions that had existed in the past. On November 20, 1992, the world met Franz Maurer, who made a special contribution to the history of Polish cinematography. (…) The film was shocking with its brutality and profanity – the word “fuck” is used as many as 55 times, i.e. almost every two minutes on average. at the Polish Feature Film Festival in Gdynia in 1992. The film was distinguished for: direction, music by Michał Lorenc, editing, male role by Bogusław Linda and supporting female role by Agnieszka Jaskółka. Out of all the nominations received, only the Golden Lion for the best film failed, “she wrote from on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the premiere of the film for Katarzyna Olejnik.
