Some people earn extra money for retirement or disability pensions. This is a popular practice especially now, when rising prices significantly overwhelm the household budget. However, some changes are coming. Some beneficiaries may even lose the benefit if they exceed the indicated limits. How much will they be from March 1?

of 17 December 1998 on old-age and disability pensions from the Social Insurance Fund says that the benefit may be reduced or suspended. This will happen when you earn more than a certain threshold rate. What does this mean for seniors and what changes are coming from March 1, 2023?

How much can you earn towards retirement? If you exceed the limit, ZUS will limit the benefit

Anyone who receives , can easily earn extra money for a pension or disability pension, but some people have to keep an eye on the established limits. They do not apply only to seniors who have reached the general retirement age, i.e. women over 60 and men over 65. Pensioners who receive pensions for war and military invalids whose incapacity for work results from service can also earn extra money without any limitations. The same is true for people who receive a family pension. All because it is more advantageous in terms of the amount of the retirement pension for reaching the standard age.

What about other people? If the payment exceeds the limits, the benefit will be appropriately or even suspended. What does it look like in practice?

  • In order to receive an old-age and disability pension in full, you cannot earn more than 70% of the average monthly salary.
  • If you earn more than 70% of the average monthly salary, but less than 130%, ZUS will reduce the benefit.
  • When you earn more than 130% of the average monthly salary, ZUS will stop paying the benefit.

Indicators with exact amounts change every three months. The new ones will apply from March 1, 2023.

Changes in limits from March 1, 2023. How much can you earn now?

The limits are set on the basis of data collected by the Central Statistical Office and change every three months. From March 1, 2023 to May 31, 2023, they will be slightly different than before. This time, people receiving the benefit will be able to earn a little more. According to the collected data, the average salary in the fourth quarter of 2022 was PLN 6,733.49.

Thanks to this, the amount that can be earned in order not to reduce or suspend the benefit has slightly increased. It amounts to PLN 4,713.50 and is 70% of the average salary. Thanks to this, beneficiaries can pay PLN 177 more than before, without fear of losing or reducing their pension or pension.

What about people who receive social security? In this case, the rules are a bit stricter. The payment cannot exceed 70% of the average monthly salary, otherwise ZUS will immediately suspend the benefit.
