One of the most famous rock’n’rollers of the 1980s has a difficult past behind him, to which he has only recently opened up in the media. The death of his firstborn and the subsequent betrayal of his beloved wife led him to depression. He found happiness only after years at the side of a much younger woman. Marek Piekarczyk’s first wife was Ewa, a resident of Bochnia, 10 years his junior. When they met, the musician was 27 years old. They fell in love with each other and soon found out that the girl was pregnant. Although they were shocked, they decided to raise a child together. The musician proposed a wedding, but the pregnant woman was a year away from coming of age. To get married, she had to obtain permission from the office. The document was issued shortly before the birth, so together they decided to postpone the ceremony until the child is born.
However, the joyous anticipation was interrupted by premature contractions. Ewa went to the hospital and gave birth to a son, Michał. The baby was premature, so he was placed in an incubator right after birth. Although they were worried about the health of the newborn, they believed that everything would work out. Unfortunately, on the same night the boy was born, the hospital staff threw a party in the ward. The medics, busy celebrating, paid no attention to the patients. As a result of neglect, Piekarczyk’s son died. — Then I couldn’t see my child, those were stupid times — an embittered musician in the book Confessions of a Contestator. However, the artist did not give up. He went to the autopsy room and bribed the man working there. — I gave him 50 zlotys and he opened the coffin. Beautiful, wonderful, wonderful boy. Beautiful features, long fingers, he looked like an angel – he recalled with tears in his eyes.
The funeral of the firstborn was a very painful experience for the couple. Piekarczyk revealed that during the last farewell, he carried a small coffin himself. He confessed that out of a sense of injustice, he wanted the hospital staff to answer for the child’s death and planned to sue the staff, but during the service he felt he should forgive them. “When I said over the grave, ‘we forgive our culprits’, I forgave them,” he said.
The musician’s then-partner, Ewa, was unable to accept her son’s death for a long time. The couple was in crisis, and the young woman even considered breaking up. “After the funeral, Ewa said that now we have nothing in common and I can leave her, but we got married,” recalled Piekarczyk. The couple had two children, Maciek and Sonia.

In the early 1990s, the Piekarczyk family moved to New York, where the musician took up physical work. He was an electrician and even a warehouseman in one of the shopping centers. Ewa, on the other hand, focused all her attention on raising children. After some time, it turned out that she fell in love with an American and decided to leave the singer. For Piekarczyk, the information about the betrayal was a blow and he overpaid it with depression. In moments of greatest doubt, TSA songs helped him. “My whole world fell apart, I was very unhappy and one time I played a TSA tape. It turned out that there was help in those songs, as if the younger Piekarczyk wrote for the older Piekarczyk, who had terrible depression and even thought about suicide, what to do, how to think and experience – he said in an interview for “Polityka”.
Eventually, the 20-year marriage ended in divorce, which they obtained in the late 1990s. Ewa stayed with her daughter in the USA, and Piekarczyk returned to Bochnia with his son. Returning to their homeland, however, was not beneficial for their relationship. The singer began to lead the life of a real rock’n’roller, so he did not devote much time and attention to Maciek. When the boy became an adult, he moved out of the house and broke off contact with his father. Although many years have passed since the memorable events, the men have not rebuilt their relationship and maintain sporadic contact.

After many years, Marek Piekarczyk finally found happiness and stability at the side of Katarzyna Rogalska, who is 34 years younger. The couple met in 2002 in a bar at the festival.
