The filming of ‘A love’ will start on February 20 under the direction of Isabel Coixet (recognized with the National Cinematography Award and the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres Medal from the French Ministry of Culture, Coixet has numerous Goya nominations and awards, among many other awards, including the Goya for best film for “The Library” or “The secret Life of the words”.

Based on the successful novel of the same name by Sara Mesa (‘One Love‘, published in Anagrama), Coixet also signs the script together with the writer, journalist and screenwriter Laura Ferrero. For the director, the desire to adapt this novel to the cinema was immediate and the challenge, without a doubt, lies in “how to make oneself understood in a place where everyone lies. This is a film of love and all its synonyms: despair, discomfort, passion, fear and redemption”.

The film stars Laia Costa (winner of the Goya for best actress in the recent edition for ‘Cinco Lobitos’, captivated international critics for her work in the German film ‘Victoria’, and this is her second job with Coixet after starring in ‘Foodie Love’, a series created and directed by the writer and director for HBO) and Hovik Keuchkerian (Awarded and applauded for his starring work in Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s series ‘Riot Control’, Keuchkerian is known for his participation in the popular series ‘La casa de papel’. He has just finished shooting the long-awaited ‘Red Queen’. In cinema He has been seen in ‘Rainbow’, ‘Assasin’s Creed’ or ‘Alacrán enamorado’).

Hugo Silva completes the cast (nominated for the Actors Union Awards for Best Actor in International Production for ‘Top Boy’; ‘My Big Night’, and the series ‘El ministerio del tiempo’ and ‘Los hombres de Paco’), Luis Bermejo (nominated for a Goya for best actor for his work in ‘Magical girl’, ‘Rainbow’, or ‘While the war lasts’), Ingrid Garcia-Jonsson (nominated for a Goya for Best New Actress in her film debut for ‘Beautiful Youth’, ‘Explota Explota’, or ‘Veneciafrenia’) and Francesco Carril (awarded for best actor at the Argentine film festivals -BAFICI- and Cinespaña de Toulouse, Carril has worked in numerous films by Jonás Trueba such as ‘You have to come and see her’, ‘La virgen de agosto’ or ‘Los ilusos’, among other titles).

The film, whose filming will take place over five and a half weeks in locations in La Rioja as Nalda, Ribafrecha and Villalobar, is a production by Marisa Fernández Armenteros for Buenapinta Media (producer of the winner of the recent edition of the Goya Awards ‘Cinco lobitos’ or the Oscar nominee ‘El agente topo’), Sandra Hermida and Belén Atienza for Perdicion Films (Hermida and Atienza have some of the most successful titles in Spanish cinema in their filmography, such as ‘The Orphanage’ or ‘The Impossible’, and the long-awaited ‘The Snow Society’ by JA is pending release Bayona) and Monte Glauco AIE, with the participation of RTVE, Movistar+, the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts and the Government of La Rioja.

“Accompanying Isabel Coixet in ‘Un amor’ is, above all, a gift as producers. Working alongside the most international director of Spanish cinema is a priceless learning experience. The novel caught us and no one like Coixet, with that unique look, to carry out this adaptation with this magnificent cast in a location like La Rioja”, acknowledge the producers Marisa, Sandra and Belén.
