TikTok could put some videos behind a paywall

There are 10 million Ecuadorian accounts on TikTok, social network that grows every day. Users enjoy various content for free, but that could change. TikTok could use a simple strategy to keep growing: help creators earn extra money.

TikTok would be developing a payment function thate would allow content creators to charge $1 (or whatever price they choose) to access a given video. This would help influencers to directly benefit from your most popular clips.

The social network is also considering a renewal of its Creators Fund, a space that provides content creators the opportunity to earn money through their videos. TikTok would require a much larger number of followers, It would no longer be 10,000 but 100,000but the income would be higher for influencers.

In a statement to Engadget, TikTok did not comment directly on the alleged plans, but said it was “committed” to devise new ways to make the service “valuable and rewarding” for creators. It is not clear when the paywall will be available, but the changes to the Creators Fund could be released in March.

Paywalls and a new Creators Fund could see social media stars post more videos on TikTok where they might otherwise shift to Instagram or Snapchat. The company already has a YouTube-style program that shares ad revenue, but it’s only available in certain countries. (YO)
