According to the data, almost half of Poles read horoscopes. And even if you approach it with a distance (because it’s always worth reading something funny), it gets more serious if we take a closer look at the question, “have you ever been to a fairy?” As much as 15% of them benefited from such “help”. Poles.

Fairy advice doesn’t come cheap. We will pay an average of PLN 150-250 for a stationary visit, and PLN 100-200 for advice by e-mail and telephone, depending on the number of questions. So I checked what the stars and fairies had prepared for me. And is it worth spending a lot of money on their advice.

“Oh! My favorite card!”

I start the fairy rally with a stationary visit. The fairy Anabella* welcomes you in her tiny apartment in Gdańsk. On the staircase I pass interesting brochures: “God wants to heal you”, “Fatima – a message of tragedy or hope”, “Benedict XVI and Pope Francis”. Little fairy.

Anabella’s husband opens the door and invites me to the fortune teller’s office. I toss my jacket on the couch next to a dachshund that clearly wants to go for a walk and say hello to the spiritual oracle. “I’m Asia,” she says quickly and invites me to a heavy wooden desk. I quickly learn that the fairy uses “Ella Selena’s Angel Cards” in her work. On the website of the magical bookstore, I read that the inspiration for their creation was faith, hope and love. Their author, who introduces herself as a fortune teller and parapsychologist (i.e. a specialist in the field of pseudoscience), argues that these cards have “deep psychological and esoteric meaning”. It couldn’t be better. After all, I care about psychologically deep divination.

Anabella shuffles the deck, asks you to choose twelve cards and lays them out on the paper board. I quickly learn that:

• I am a citizen of the world and Poland is not necessarily the country where I will spend my life;
• I am about to undergo a minor surgical procedure;
• by the end of the year someone I know will die, but it will not be a person from the immediate family;
• I will have back problems, but I should “treat them naturally”;
• in the spring I will get a job offer, which I should not give up;
• I drew a bad girl card, which is Anabella’s favorite card and means that I have a rebellious soul and an aura of great potential that is blocked by a lack of self-confidence;
• my sister is facing changes in the spring, which she should not block;
• I have esoteric abilities and I should think about developing a career in this direction;
• I am waiting for a love that will end in marriage. Or it won’t finish if I don’t want to. Or it will just be good sex;
• nothing prevents me from being a mother, but I don’t necessarily have to have children, because it’s possible not to have and that’s not a bad thing;
• I already know one potential candidate for a husband, and I will meet the other one. Anabella added conservatively that it doesn’t have to be a man. So in detail, the cards simply do not see.

Egg cleansing for solving life’s issues

Due to the fact that I say almost nothing about myself, and the answers to my questions are so general that they could confidently fit 90 percent. questions, I decide to ask a bit about Anabella’s other abilities. I am most interested in seeing the aura and cleansing with the egg.

I saw it on you as soon as you walked in here. You have such energy, you can do great things. But there are also blockages. We agreed on divination, so I don’t want to go too far into it lest you think I’m trying to get you to cleanse.

But I decide to ask how an egg cleanse can remove my blockages. Anabella decides to use a personal story. “When I was younger, it sounded ridiculous to me. Some cleansing, tarot, divination. But I went with my friends to the “From the Pendulum to the Stars” fair and I met a fairy there who predicted that one day I would do the same thing as her. I laughed that maybe I will put a stand next to her. She then calmly said that no, that this fair would no longer exist, but that I would not need any promotion, that the doors of my office would not close, that I would gain many regular clients. She was right, said “my” fairy.

She arranged a personal consultation with a woman she met at the fair. She underwent an egg cleanse, and later her “three things in life” were resolved. If it was one, I’d consider it a coincidence. On the second one, I began to wonder. But the third … It really worked – argues Anabella.

The fairy added that she had asked God many times to block her clairvoyant chakra. Because fainting, when he is on vacation with his children and someone is drowning in the sea next to him, or when he is in a shop and two trains collide near Szczekociny, they are very tiring. Today, he knows how to control his powers and use them only at work. He doesn’t make any predictions for himself and his family, because the cards don’t work in such situations. I pay PLN 200 in cash for a visit to Anabella.

Free travel

There are free options available for people who want to test tarot power remotely. We can easily find offers in which we can ask one free question. Fairy Limona warns that only those who correctly indicate the date of birth and name will receive a reliable answer. However, if the question we ask is inconsistent with the facts – the cards will not give the correct answer. “Don’t waste the chance I’m giving you to ask ONE free question,” he adds.

So I ask when I will find love (after all, there can be many loves, I did not indicate that I meant romantic love). The answer comes after 13 minutes. “The spread of cards showed that in just three months you will meet the right candidate if you are open to new relationships,” Limona tells me. And kindly sends a presentation of the price list for further questions to the cards. All I have to do is click on any link (one question – PLN 14, five – PLN 50, twenty – PLN 140) to quickly make a deposit. I can also conveniently buy a dream interpretation (PLN 45) or a ritual for PLN 280.

On Limona’s website, I find out that a ritual is “an activity done with the right tools, working with entities.” As part of the ritual, Limona uses magical attributes and performs prayers. She also admits that these are open rituals, so the effects depend largely on the attitude of the person for whom they are performed. “They can be earlier, they can be later” – the fairy adds for the sake of order.

Five questions for PLN 140

The last option I decided to try was paid e-mail fortune-telling (the free ones, unfortunately, have nothing to do with my situation). I chose the fairy Eliza, to whom I could ask five questions for PLN 140. The lady fairy also asked for confirmation of the transfer so that she could check my future on the same day.

The message comes in the evening: “Regarding finding love, three key men will stand in your way of life, bright until the age of 35, technically capable and very independent in life, met by something related to work / money / services. For the sake of order, I also ask if maybe I already have love next to me (the fairy wants to know the gentleman’s date of birth). But it turns out that “nothing serious and permanent will be here” (my partner has to forgive me and the fairy). I am also learning that by the summer I will be entering female energy and working on self-love. I should also get closer to myself.

Fairy Eliza adds that I am not destined for a lonely road. “By closing the door to love, you will wither like a rose without sun and water,” she argues.

“Some want fortune tellers to take responsibility”

Wiktoria Dróżka, a psychologist and therapist, recently told my editorial colleague about why we go to fairies and believe in their prophecies.

Some want fortune-tellers to take responsibility for the decisions they make, which may promise a simpler solution. One can risk saying that consolation in divination is needed by people who feel loneliness and want quick answers to various life dilemmas. Of course, you can gain a different perspective thanks to prophecies, but will a person who has never seen us before have a better view of the situation than, for example, a friend?

The specialist argued that we usually seek the advice of fairies at times when our fear level is higher and we want change, but at the same time we are afraid of it. – It is in human nature that we try to secure ourselves for the future, and therefore also predict it, protect ourselves from evil, make good choices. In prophecies we look for answers to love, partner life, career, health, children. We read horoscopes, read tarot to receive comfort, hope, support, to think differently about troubles – said Dróżka.

Will the advice of fairies help me build a future and look at life differently? NO. I treated them similarly to the instructions for reading tarot cards from the magazine “Witch Sorceress” that I collected twenty years ago. Can I understand why someone would spend hard-earned money on “believe in yourself” advice? Yes. Because we all need to be heard, understood and supported. Sometimes we just don’t know where to get them.
