“‘Vulk Ez Da’ aims to fully connect with the viewer”

The Bilbao quartet Wolf presents this Sunday at the Sala BBK in Bilbao within the program of the Zinebi, the International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Bilbao, the multidisciplinary show “Vulk Ez Da”, which, continuing with the denials, assure that “it is not going to be a concert, it is not going to be a video.”

We have spoken with Alberto Eguiluz, bassist of the post-punk group, to try to find out what this “Vulk Ez Da” is going to be, once we have defined what is not going to be, which, for now, we already know that it will also be the title of their next album, the third, to be released in January.

How did you get the proposal to take the project “Vulk Ez Da” on stage? Why did you say yes?

Actually, it was Zinebi who told us yes. We were preparing an audiovisual project different from what we had done before, this time totally oriented to the current situation of the band and what we want to convey. For us, this was an ideal opportunity to develop this idea.

We want to capture the importance that the act of playing itself, the live, the performance has for us… The album reflects this, since it is recorded with the whole band playing at the same time. This more organic, more visceral way of working was what we wanted to be reflected in our videos.

What will the public see and hear?

We are going to break down the barriers between live music and video, as the Arriguri team will accompany us live, the production company in charge of shooting what will be our promotional videos for this album.

We are going to do live shows, cameras and the band working at the same time, as we did in the video clips, as we did in the recording studio and as we always do in our premises and on the stages. There will also be interludes, where the statement what this new album means, this new stage.

What weight does the image have in Vulk’s proposal?

We have always tried to take care of the image projected by the band, at least find one in which we feel comfortable.

Will the show “Vulk Ez Da” continue?

Not at the beginning. For us, this event is also a test, a way to explore new fields within making music and showing it. Surely it influences what we do later, but we do not yet know to what extent.

It was also a way of giving a new fluidity to the live show. Until now we fed ourselves a lot of the energy that the public gave us back, and the last two years things have been different, the way we face the live did not stop flowing with a seated audience and with masks. This event aims to fully connect with the viewer.

In January you will publish your third album. What can you tell us about him?

It is recorded in Atala Estudioa, in Bera (Navarra), by Iñigo Irazoki, with the band playing all at the same time and almost everything recorded on tape. It has been an album composed over about two years, in which we have made a transition within the members of the band. Chavi left the drums and Jangitz came in, and the lyrics have changed to Basque.

What plans do you have now?

Continue touching.
