Disney is reuniting the gang for a fifth installment of the beloved franchise. Toy Story. Buzz Lightyear himself, Tim Allen, confirmed the news on Twitter on Wednesday.
‘See you soon Woody, you are a sad and strange little man, I feel sorry for you. Let’s go for number 5! To infinity and beyond,” Allen wrote.
His tweet apparently also confirms that Tom Hanks will reprise the role of Woody in Toy Story 5. The news comes as Bob Iger has returned to the helm of Disney after an era of doing Toy Story spin-offs. One of them included Lightyear, starring Chris Evans as Buzz.
In the last installment, Toy Story 4, Buzz’s character didn’t get much prominence, this due to Tim Allen’s conservative political views. He was also not considered to star in Lightyear. However, those involved in Lightyear’s film say it was a creative choice.
“Tim Allen is Buzz Lightyear, the toystated Lightyear’s producer Galyn Susman, according to Yahoo. “We weren’t making a Toy Story movie. We’re doing the Buzz Lightyear movie.”
So far very little is known about the plot of the tape, as well as the rest of the announcements made by Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, during the first quarter earnings call. Disney also confirmed a new installment of Frozen and Zootopia. (AND)
