We know the nominations for Eagles 2023. Skolimowski’s “IO” is this year’s record holder

This year’s Gala of the Eagles will be a jubilee one, as the Polish Film Awards will be presented for the 25th time. The ceremony will take place on March 6, 2023 at the Polish Theater in Warsaw, and then all the winners will be announced. On March 1, we will find out who will receive the Life Achievement Award.

“IO” has a chance not only for an Oscar, but also for 11 statuettes of the Polish Film Awards

This year’s Polish candidate for the Oscars, Jerzy Skolimowski’s “IO” received as many as 11 nominations. Eight nominations went to Daniel Jaroszek’s “Johnny”, and seven statuettes have a chance to win “Silent Twins” by Agnieszka Smoczyńska, which won four Golden Lions at last year’s Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.

Apart from being nominated for the best film, “IO” also has a chance to win statuettes in the following categories: best actress (Sandra Drzymalska), best supporting actor (Mateusz Kościukiewicz), best director (Jerzy Skolimowski), best screenplay (Jerzy Skolimowski and Ewa Piaskowska) , the best cinematography (Michał Dymek), the best editing (Agnieszka Glińska), the best music (Paweł Mykietyn), the best stage design (Mirosław Koncewicz and Roberta Amodio), the best costumes (Katarzyna Lewińska), the best sound (Radosław Ochnio and Marcin Matlak).

This year’s nominations are dominated by women in the “Best Director” category. Agnieszka Smoczyńska, Anna Jadowska and Aleksandra Terpińska will compete for the statuette in this category. A positive accent is also the greater presence of young actresses and actors on the list of nominees, e.g. from such productions as “Apokawixa” or “Other People”.
