“This is the only network that I didn’t shut down, because I definitely left Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, because I was stunned by the noise that I myself was making there… and also because Penguin Random House is going to publish a new book of mine” the author explained. “They were happy when they found out that I had not closed this network, because we can continue to maintain it to start a different communication with the possible readers of that book and those who are interested in the things that I write… I think that things can be done very creative around here, we see that all networks have the potential to be toxic.”

Carlos Vives and his sad confession when remembering his relationship with Margarita Rosa de Francisco

In an interview with the Colombian news outlet Change, the 57-year-old interpreter assured in mid-January that the text will hit bookstores in April. In that same space, Margarita shared the reasons that led her to make the decision to withdraw from all her social networks. First, she was fed up with the insults and verbal violence of her virtual detractors.

“I think I withdrew from the networks, because I couldn’t stand my reactivity and that of others anymore. I’m not sure that living in peace is an achievable goal; I believe, rather, in training the ability to live in conflict without this meaning eliminating the other. Now, there are ways to navigate the conflict and control the emotions that are generated by it”.

Apparently one of his favorite platforms was Twitter. “I found it very entertaining to try to say as much as possible with a limited number of characters… For me, the fun of Twitter was not having ‘followers’ (horrible word), but the public discussion itself and also the readings collective. I could have kept just that, but it’s not easy to be in that network and not screw up like I did so many times. That’s why it seems dangerous to me. If it is true that there are people who are influenced by the things that one says there, it is better to retire from the scene”. (AND)
