What is it like to be gender non-binary? The term by which Camilo and Evaluna broke the silence to answer for the accusations about their daughter

Camilo and Evaluna Montaner do not stop being in the news because of their daughter, Índigo, who for a few days the media have assured that she is raised as a non-binary gender. However, tired of the speculation, his parents have already stepped forward to clarify the situation.

Through a music video, the marriage of the daughter of Ricardo Montaner and the Colombian announced that they were waiting sweetly in 2021 and last year, in April, the little girl was born, who was initially known to use a name neutral so that the sex of the baby would take them by surprise.

What is gender non-binary? The term with which they point to the daughter of Camilo and Evaluna

The term “non-binary” differentiates from the biological sex of the person. This gender is understood as the denomination that is applied to people who assume or choose an identity that is not found within masculine and feminine, wrote La Nación.

In this way, under the scope of this definition, the term “self-perception” comes into discussion, which has been heard frequently for a few years and under which there would be a third gender, which is the “non-binary”, oblivious to the dichotomy between masculine and feminine.

The Público portal goes further and details relevant aspects, such as the sociocultural nature of this process in the conduct of human beings.

“One of the factors that define identity is gender, understanding this as the relationship we have with our sexuality, including in it the sociocultural processes through which an individual would be recognized as masculine or feminine. Therefore, gender appeals to cultural traits, among which are roles, conventions, and historical conditioning.

However, gender does not necessarily coincide with biological sex and neither with sexual orientation.

For this reason, Camilo decided to publish an extensive message on his Instagram account to clarify and put an end to the rumors that the couple raises Indigo with said gender.

The Colombian singer decided to comment on the situation due to the number of comments he received with his wife.

“Several days ago we have been receiving a flurry of questions about an alleged news claiming that we had decided that our daughter would be recognized as non-binary,” he began, adding: “They took out of context some videos of interviews where we referred to Indigo in a neutral way, because until the day he was born we knew his sex”.

“We found the amount of hate and judgment messages we received disturbing,” he continued.

Later, Echeverry added that they respected those who made the decision to do so, but that was not the case for them. In this way, he denied that Indigo’s upbringing, so far, was related to the binary gender.

On the other hand, the name Indigo refers to that which originates or comes from India, but it is also the name of a color between blue and violet. In addition, it refers to a high state of the evolution of the human being. (AND)
