Leonardo DiCaprio didn’t want to be in Titanic at first. Cameron had to “wring his arm”

James Cameron’s Titanic is the third highest-grossing film in the world. The action takes place on the titular ocean liner, and the main characters are a pair of young lovers – Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose (Kate Winslet). They both came from two different worlds, but despite this, they decided to indulge their feelings in the wrong place and at the wrong time.

Titanic was almost without Leonardo DiCaprio

James Cameron, in an interview with the weekly “People” during the Golden Globes ceremony, said that Leonardo DiCaprio was initially reluctant to play the role of Jack. He had to convince an actor to star in a film that changed his position in Hollywood once and for all:

He didn’t want to play the lead role. I had to really twist his arm to get him to act in the movie. He didn’t want to do that. He thought it was boring

DiCaprio was only supposed to “accept the role” of Jack Dawson in “Titanic” after Cameron convinced him that the role would actually be a “difficult challenge”. After this confession, the director added:

First of all, it didn’t surprise me that he made a lot of genuine choices later on. Secondly, I never doubted his talent

Cameron previously revealed that the studio was also reluctant to cast DiCaprio in Titanic and had to “fight” for him. Gwyneth Paltrow as Rose and Matthew McConaughey as Jack were tipped to play the lead roles in the film.

The film won a record number of Oscars won. He was nominated in fourteen categories, and managed to win a total of eleven statuettes. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the world premiere of the production about the unsinkable ship, the iconic “Titanic” will return to cinemas around the world this year. The premiere of James Cameron’s renewed film will take place on February 10, 2023.
