The Grammys will honor 50 years of American hip hop with a special from Missy Elliot, Lil Wayne, Queen Latifah and others

The Recording Academy, the organization of American music specialists, will celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of hip hop during the grammy awards ceremony with a special number of which they will be part rapper Missy Elliot and her colleagues Lil Wayne, Public Enemy, Grandmaster Flash, Queen LatifahRUN-DCM, Rakim and others.

Questlove will be the musical director and producer of that segment, and his band The Roots will also take the stage. Trevor Noah will host the gala from the Crupto.com stadium in Los Angeles.

It’s just one of the shows to look forward to. Throughout the evening, there will also be presentations Scarface, Salt-N-Pepa, Ice-T, Busta Rhymes, Lil Baby and the rising star Glorilla.

“For five decades, hip hop has not only been a decisive force in music, but a major influence on our culture: art, fashion, sports, politics and society,” said Academy executive director Harvey Mason Jr.

The rapper with the most nominations, Kendrick Lamar, has eight nominations: album, song and record of the year, to name a few. Also in the competition are JZ, DJ Khaled, Drake, Pusha and T. Future.

However, the classification of the rap number as a “union of all stars” has been seen as an exaggeration, since the names that in 2022 starred in the Super Bowl halftime show are left out, in addition to Lamar: Eminem, Snoop Dog, Mary J. Blige, 50Cent and Dr. Dre. (AND)
