currently offers three tariff plans to Polish users. The basic one costs PLN 29 per month and allows you to watch movies in good HD resolution (720p) on one device at a time. The standard plan costs PLN 43 and includes the option of setting up profiles for two people who can use the service simultaneously on such devices as a phone, tablet, computer or TV with Full HD (1080p) resolution. The premium plan costs PLN 60 and differs from the others in that it has the best video quality: Ultra HD (4k) and HDR. In addition, the service can be used by four people on different devices at the same time. The regulations also state that one account can only be shared by people living in one household, regardless of the tariff.
When will ad-supported Netflix launch in Poland?
Netflix in 2022, for the first time in 10 years, recorded a decrease in the number of users instead of its increase. Although we eventually managed to catch up with the losses, the situation was so serious that the company’s management is looking for ways to seal its system. Hence the idea to make sure that only people who live together use the accounts on the site. Users who have used the packages with their relatives or friends are encouraged to set up their own accounts. The option of transferring profiles with the entire viewing and searching history to a separate subscription has been launched especially for them.
In addition, Netflix uses data such as IP address or serial numbers of devices used by viewers to verify that only users from one household have access to a given account. For this purpose, it sends a verification code to the e-mail or phone number of the main account holder, which must be entered within 15 minutes to be able to use the website normally.
From November 2022, Netflix is also testing a cheaper ad-supported package. So far, such a tariff has been launched in 12 countries – including in the USA, Japan, Australia, Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy and Brazil. The amount of the subscription depends on the country, in the US it costs $ 6.99, which is an attractive alternative when you pay twice as much for the standard package.
For the time being, Netflix is collecting data on how this solution works and, based on the conclusions of the first analyses, it is to decide whether and how to introduce advertisements in other markets. Let us remind you that the Polish platform office has been operating in Warsaw since September 2022. As reported by the l portal, for the time being Netflix does not plan to launch a package with advertisements in Poland. This can be expected at the end of 2023 at the earliest, but at the moment the platform is not even in talks with Polish media agencies about the sale of advertising time.
Will the solution be accepted in Poland? – Many people, used to lower costs of using the platform, will look for alternative solutions. In addition, let’s remember that we are witnessing the unfolding global crisis, the increase in the cost of living, the increase in the cost of servicing loans, and access to entertainment platforms is not a basic good and can easily be eliminated from the household shopping basket – Krzysztof Dumbal analyzes for.
