Letizia of Spain, ignored by the Iranian ambassador; This is the norm that does not allow you to greet or royalty

An uncomfortable moment lived the highest authority of Spain, this Tuesday at a diplomatic event. The spoken encounter of the moment involves the King Felipe VIthe queen letizia and the ambassador of Iran, Hassan Ghashghavi. The moment in which the royal figures received his guest was recorded, and he decided to deny the greeting to the queen consort.

He first greeted His Majesty the King by extending his hand, then Hassan Ghashghavi continued where Letizia and made a little bow, unremarkable, putting his hand on his chest and lowering the head slightly. This drew a withering look from the queen who stared sideways at the 65-year-old Iranian.

Many have criticized the ambassador’s lack of respect, for not knowing the rule that prohibits Iranian men, especially high-ranking ones, from touching a woman in public and outside their country. This rule exists from the Islamic revolution of 1979which is why they look for alternatives to extend a greeting to women that does not imply giving them a kiss on the cheek, a kiss on the hand or even a handshake.

So it is not about contempt or disrespect for the kings of Spain, but about compliance with one of their most precious rules that involves cultural reasons. However, social networks speak of a humiliation towards the queen just for “being a woman”, since this Middle Eastern country is known for denying rights to women and imposing other types of laws or rules that are harmful to them.

Not even Letizia is indifferent to the new song by Shakira and Bizarrap: this is how the queen of Spain reacts to the Colombian’s outburst against Piqué

“It is horrible to think that your husband has to give you permission to get a passport or leave the country, but you end up assuming that is the law”, an Iranian woman explained to BBC News Mundo in October 2022, after strikes sparked by the death of Mahsa Aminiwho was arrested and tortured by the Islamic religious police for not wearing her hijab correctly.
