‘Le Pupille’, the short film that would give Alfonso Cuarón the sixth Oscar; watch it on this streaming platform

in the catalog of disneyplus this the pupil (The pupil), a 38 minute live action short film, nominated in its category at the upcoming Academy of Motion Picture Arts Awards. Co-directed by the Italian Alice Rohrwacher and the Mexican Alfonso Cuarónis a Christmas story, but also an account of the ravages of World War II.

It takes place in a religious boarding school for girls, and its center is a Christmas cake. The pupils live there, some with innocence, others with fantasies and greed. These are hard times. The short is based on a letter sent in 1971 by Elsa Morante, one of the most prominent Italian writers of the second half of the 20th century.to her friend, the journalist, activist and critic Goffredo Fofi, who is still alive and has written at least one book dedicated to her, elsa face.

The short premiered in 2022, is recommended for ages 12+, and has been on Disney Plus for months, gaining notoriety for its recent nomination.

In the cast are Alba Rohrwacher, sister of the director, Greta Zucchero Montanari, Carmen Pommella, the musician Lady Maru, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi and Lucciano Vergaron.

While this would be the fifth Oscar for Cuarón, who has won before for gravity (2014, best editing, best director) and for Rome (2019, Best Director, Best Foreign Language Film, Best Cinematography), Rohrwacher is not far behind; she has been awarded the Grand Jury Prize in Cannes for Wonderland (2014) and the best screenplay for happy lazzaro (2018).
