Kalmar de la mar presents his dream album ‘Almática’

Becoming an artist and publishing an album is the dream of whoever is linked to art. On this occasion, the Guayaquil kalmar of the sea (@kalmardelamarmusic) arrives with his first record production, after have won the Ibermúsicas award in 2021 and at the end of December 2022, publishes almatic.

Composed of thirteen songs, this work explores the sound identity of Kalmar; from singing in English and Spanish, to showing an eclecticism of genres, since it ranges from flamenco rumba, ballads and Cuban son, to flirting with the urban at times.

Available on all digital distribution platforms and produced by Alfredo Munoz, from the production company Altamar, the sound of Almática achieves its goal: hooks its listeners and gives them an digestible sound that doesn’t get boring, despite its long duration.

From the critic’s point of view, without being boring, the album can be considered a bit long; however, his variety of musical styles helps time fly by. This raises a question: Are we in a good time to return to long-term musical projects?

Responding quickly, an album that has many songs or long songs never hurts, but in this case, that same eclecticism that in the first instance is favorable, can harm Kalmar’s sound and artistic identity. Something that helps the Ecuadorian singer a lot, without a doubt, is her voice with a particular timbre.

I dare to mention oblivion coffee, as the most prominent theme of this production. The voice, the melody and the rhythm combine superbly in this track.

Taking as reference almatic, The independent musical scene of Ecuador in this new 2023 will have a more than interesting diversity, not only for the regular followers, but also for those who constantly seek to renew their playlists on platforms of streaming. (EITHER)
