Estibaliz Urresola will premiere “20,000 species of bees” in the Official Section of the Berlinale

The filmmaker Estibaliz Urresola (Bilbao, 1984) will premiere her first feature film “20,000 species of bees”in which EITB participates, in a dream setting: the Official Section of the Berlinale.

After premiering his award-winning social short film “Cuerdas” last year in Critics’ Week at the Cannes Film Festival, Estibaliz Urresola will participate between February 16 and 26 in the race for the Gold and Silver Bears at the German festival.

20,000 species of bees it is a hymn to the diversity of all possible identities, and tells the story of a transformation”, Urresola explains to EITB Media. “That family is transformed when its members begin to express themselves as they feel. I am interested in the idea of ​​the family as a dynamic organism,” she adds.

“I want the time to have the film delivered and celebrate it with actors and actresses. I have not been able to share the final result of the film with them, and it will be the best celebration for five years of work on the film,” he explains. Urresola.

The cast is led by the young Sofía Otero in her first film job, Patricia López Arnaiz, Ane Gabarain, Itziar Lazkano, Martxelo Rubio, Sara Cózar, Miguel Garcés, Unax Hayden and Andere Garabieta.

Before Urresola, Pedro Olea premiered his film “Akelarre” in the Official Section of the Berlinale in 1984, and Montxo Armendariz also competed in the main category with “Secrets of the Heart” in 1997. In 2017, Álex de la Iglesia from Bilbao presented his film “El bar” in this section but out of competition.
