The Official Contest of Carnival Groups (COAC) of Cádiz It has, like many other events, contests or events, specific rules and not following them can have consequences. So much so that in the second session of the preliminary phase of the Contest, the first penalty to one of the groups has already been known, specifically to the comparsa ‘El don Juan de tus detalles’, for having included an instrument that is not allowed in part of his repertoire.
The COAC jury agreed to “penalize” the aforementioned comparsa with “zero points per vocal in the pasodobles” for having used “an unauthorized instrument” in this part of the repertoire, specifically for using curtains —The curtain is a percussion instrument made up of several metal cylinders of different sizes, which make bells- The rules for the comparsas are defined in the contest rules, and in addition to setting the number of components (a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 15) and voices (at least tenor and second), it also establishes the mandatory and optional instruments that should be part of the repertoire. For example, it is obligatory the bass drum with its respective dishes and box; In addition, it can also be accompanied by a maximum of three Spanish guitars and whistles.
Finally, the fixed rule that other musical instruments can be used, but these will be admitted only in “the presentation, the choruses and the medley” and not in the pasodobles, which are the genuine compositions of this category. Thus, the grouping has incurred a serious misconductwhich implies the absence of punctuation in “the interpreted composition”, so that the pasodoble of ‘El don Juan de tus detalles’ remains at zero points.
The jury in the adult category is chaired by Francisco Javier Ramírez Muñoz, with Domingo Acedo Moreno as secretary. Carlos Mera Cantillo, María del Carmen Vivas Llamas, José Juan De la Rosa Rojo, Inmaculada Serrano Muñoz and Antonio Blanco Alegre act as vocals for choirs and comparsas, with Ana María Mayí Arias as substitute; while Patricia Andrés Solozábal, Rocío Díaz Farre, Carlos Benot Santiago, Antonio García Serrano and Verónica Sánchez González do the same in the chirigotas and quartet modalities, with Miguel Ángel Rodríguez Sánchez as substitute.
