A new type of gasoline will be distributed from this Thursday, August 25 in Ecuador. It will be the ecoplus 89, whose price is released, that is, it will vary according to the price of oil at the international level. In any case, this will be a little cheaper than the super and of better quality than the extra and the ecopaís (extra with ethanol).
The ecoplus will contain 89 octane with a sulfur content of 200 parts per million (ppm), added with 8% alcohol or ethanol. In this way, it is considered to be a more environmentally friendly fuel; its color is light green.
This fuel is quite similar to the color of gasoline eco-country and extra (85 octane) they are a bluish green color. Instead, gasoline super (92 octane) is yellow.
The colors of the gasolines must be different to be able to identify them through sight. In Ecuador several years ago other gasolines were marketed, one with 80 octane equivalent to regular and another with 90 that was like super. But there was an intermediate that was from 85 octane and it was red.
According to experts, there is no major difference between the extra and the eco-country. Both have 85% octane, but the ecopaís presents 5% ethanol and the extra does notand the latter is more polluting.
Currently, extra and ecopaís gasoline have 291 parts per million of sulfur (INEN regulations allow up to 650 ppm), while the new one is expected to reach 200 ppm. Instead, the super premium of 95 _whose sale is expected to start next October_ will have 50 parts per million. The current super can have up to 450 ppm.
The ecoplús 89 can be obtained at 86 gas stations located in the provinces of Guayas, Esmeraldas and Los Ríos. (YO)
