“Wednesday”. The number on Gomez’s prison uniform is no accident. It contains as many as two hidden messages

is undoubtedly one of the greatest hits. The series, which premiered in November 2022, had such a large viewership that in less than a month it was not only among the most popular titles of recent weeks, but also reached the second place on the list of productions with the best opening in the history of the platform. Viewers from around the world watched it for over a billion hours, and as it turns out, many of them carefully analyzed even the smallest details of each shot.

The number on Gomez’s prison uniform is no accident

The plot created by “Wednesday” focuses on the teenage daughter of Morticia and Gomez Addams. We meet her when she is forced to enroll at Nevermore Academy – a prestigious school for outcasts, which her parents graduated from. The rebellious teenager does not want to live in the shadow of her parents’ achievements, so she plans to escape from the institution as soon as possible. However, when someone tries to kill her and she uncovers a series of mysterious murders at school and a nearby town, she changes her mind and decides to solve the criminal mystery. By the way, she stumbles upon a family secret from years ago, which turns out to be connected with her investigation.

When the parents come to visit Wednesday at school, things get complicated and the wrongly accused Gomez Addams is arrested: the local police believe he is behind at least one attack and is responsible for the murders of innocent victims. Gomez gets a uniform with the number “171912” in prison. As users point out, these numbers were not taken out of thin air.

First of all, on January 1, 1912, Charles Addams was born – the creator of satirical drawings and comics, on the basis of which the first popular television series about a macabre family was created in the 1960s. Given that Americans tend to write dates by writing the month first, then the day and year, “171912” is a reference to the birthday of the Addams creator. This alone is an intriguing curiosity, but Reddit users point to another clue.

In the RGB* model, this number is a code that refers to one of the shades of black. And this, as we know, is the favorite color of the Addams family. We checked it with the virtual color picker available. It works. Even if it’s a coincidence, it’s very significant.

There are many more such hidden flavors in the series. Viewers are convinced, for example, that in one of the final scenes, an important clue about an important character: they look for clues in the close-up of Lurch’s eye. Moreover, an attentive viewer can catch that, for example, several of the shops in the town of Jericho, next to which the Wedensday school is located, it has exactly the same fronts as in the original Charles Addams drawings. This includes a flower shop, a shop with antiques and second-hand items, and a shoemaker’s shop. What’s more, the back wall of the Weathervane Cafe (a place where students from the school sometimes hang out and one of the main character’s new friends works there) is decorated with specially designed anemometers that refer to Tim Burton’s movies.

*RGB is one of the color space models, described by color coordinates: red (red), G – green (green) and B – blue (blue). It is used in computer science and is also often used in devices such as digital cameras, scanners, televisions, computer monitors or telephone displays. Most often, colors are saved in 24-bit notation. In this system, the notation of each color has components that take values in the range of 0-255.
