When Billie Eilish won her first Grammy Award as an 18-year-old in 2020, the media wrote about her success, emphasizing the young age of the singer. However, she was more than a decade away from breaking the record for the youngest winner of this award. Two girls received such a distinction before they were ten years old. One of them is the daughter of a well-known artist in the industry, the other – has been forgotten. What does Leah Peasall look like today?

It can be heard in the award-winning 2000 film

Leah Peasall was a member of the group Peasall Sisters along with her little older sisters. Sarah played the guitar and Hannah played the mandolin, while the youngest had mastered the violin. In 2002, they released their first album entitled “First Offer”, and in 2005 another – “Home to You”, closing their not very numerous discography. However, they received the Grammy Award before the album was released. All thanks to co-creating the music for the film “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” (“Brother, where are you?”) from the early 2000s. The statuette was awarded to them in 2001, when the soundtrack to the production was announced the album of the year. Leah was only 8 years old at the time and to this day remains the youngest recipient of this prestigious award in music history.

11 years ago, the Peasall sisters appeared in a documentary reminiscent of a film that brought them relative recognition. Today, all of them have changed a lot, but both family ties and making music are still very important to them. Now they do it mainly in the privacy of their homes, but the sisters sometimes share such moments on social media, including on Instagram. Sarah is the most active, although Leah also runs the account. She took her husband’s surname and devoted herself to raising her children.

Other young record holders

In addition to Peasall’s youngest sister, Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s daughter Blue Ivy has won a Grammy before she turned ten, following in her mother’s 28-trophy footsteps. Named “the most famous child in the world” by Time magazine, the girl was 9 years old when in 2021 she received the award for participating in the winning music video for “Brown Skin Girl”, where she not only played, but also sang with other artists (including Wizkid and Saint John). Despite his young age, he has been developing his singing career for a long time.

Country singer LeAnn Rimes is the youngest individual artist to win a Grammy. At the age of 14, she won the categories of “Best New Artist” and “Best Female Country Vocal” in 1997.
