Dance and some text interventions will merge tonight in a staging that will go through the story of five young people submerged in the dark world of drug addiction. The Black Cat Project from Quito leads to Theater House Zone Scene (Imbabura 204 and Panama) his contemporary dance work Subjects in-fault, directed by Stefanny Barragan.
The feeling of euphoria, the lack of love and understanding, the panic, pain, fear and other consequences that are generated from this fight against addiction are addressed in this staging. “We talk about drug addiction from that marginalized point. That point at which no one talks about how that person who has the addiction feels, what leads them to have that addiction ”, Barragan describes.
This is how the work also travels through the history that each person trapped by drugs carries. “History is born from the family, from the decisions that our parents make (…) We only see the person who consumes, but we never ask ourselves why they consume”, holds.
As a result of an eight-month theoretical investigative work, Barragán and his group capture the hidden traumas in each character in dance and texts. “When I see Subjects at fault I see these children who could not do something different, because the people who had to give them love, affection and all that understanding did not. I do not see adults with an addiction in Sujetos en falta, but rather adults who did not receive love”, says Barragán, who is also studying psychology.
It reveals that the name of the piece arises from a personal experience, where she realized that she needed the excesses to which she was exposed at some point. “I was in psychological therapy and I was talking to my psychologist, since I was diagnosed with severe depression, and during the course I felt empty because I stopped being in a life of excesses and I felt that I was missing something. When I talked to my psychologist about wanting something, she told me that it was that part of the desire.” details.
Subjects at fault will have two shows, one this Friday at 8:30 p.m. and the second show will be tomorrow Saturday at 8:30 p.m. The entrance has a cost of $15 for general public and $5 for students. Seniors and people with disabilities pay with a 50% discount. (YO)
