The album “Heart on My Sleeve”, which Mai herself describes as her most delicate and honest project in her career, is the successor to her eponymous debut from 2018. The main single from the album, “DFMU”, successively gains new positions on the Urban & Rhythmic list.
Ella Mai shines on the British R&B scene
In the work on the song “DFMU”, the English singer was supported by her permanent collaborator DJ Mustard, as well as Prince Charlez. The song is about falling in love and the internal battles associated with this state. “I didn’t think it would be this hard, it’s pure madness that I’m letting my guard down,” sings Ella. “DFMU” is accompanied by an extremely atmospheric, delightful clip directed by Loris Russier. The music video showcases Ella’s softer, more vulnerable side, and the ’90s references represent Maja’s love for the artists of that decade.
Ella Mai’s debut single, “Boo’d Up”, went platinum seven times and spent the most weeks at the top of the R&B/Hip-Hop Billboard Airplay chart of any artist in history. The singer’s next song, “Trip”, reached the 11th place of the main Billboard chart, and her name album was covered with platinum twice in the USA. Ella Mai also has a Grammy, three Billboard Music statuettes, an iHeartRadio and a Soul Train Award, as well as a BET Viewers’ Choice award.
