“In the triangle” already in cinemas. It is recommended by Makłowicz himself and he marvels at the “epic vomit scene”

The film “In the Triangle” won the Golden Palm at Cannes and the so-called European Oscars – awards of the European Film Academy, of which he has as many as four. The film was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.

This is a crazy comedy set on a luxury yacht among the richest people in the world. An ocean of champagne, a sea of money and a captain who always sails against the tide (a bravura performance by Woody Harrelson!) – this is how a cruise fitting for our times begins.

Celebrity model couple Carl (Harris Dickinson) and Yaya (Charlbi Dean) travel on the ship, but their trip quickly goes viral. A sudden storm – or rather a squall – causes the seafood to return to where it came from, destroys the yacht, and with it blows up the entire social hierarchy. The survivors land on a deserted island where they must fight for survival. Once there, it turns out that the only person who can get food is the cleaner.

“In the Triangle” is best watched in a full cinema hall

As we can learn from the trailer, Variety wrote about the film: “Ostlund is a master of testing the boundaries.” “In the Triangle” is a malicious, but well-conducted satire on the rich. In his previous film, The Square, the director also tackled the problem of social inequalities, but in this case he did it in a less subtle and more uncompromising way, to which few people leave the cinema indifferent.

We can see how a Russian oligarch or a top model are suddenly pulled out of their comfort zone and face a reality in which few people would be able to find themselves. All this leads to many comical, unexpected and abstract situations that expose their social position. After all, it can always change depending on the situation in which we find ourselves.

The strength of the film is also the script, thanks to which we can hear some of the most eccentric and direct dialogues in cinema in recent years. Many sentences uttered by the characters of “In the Triangle” have a double impact – first they shock, and a moment later we assimilate them and burst into a salvo of laughter.

Robert Makowicz also invites you to the screening, who shared a short recording on his Instagram profile on Friday. In it, he said that in his opinion a film should be recommended only if it is good, and not in the face of obtaining “gratification”. He described the film as funny and poignant. He also stated that he hadn’t seen such an “epic vomit scene” since Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life.

The video in its relationship was also shared by Warsaw’s Kino Muranów, which some time ago shared a list of the Top 10 most watched films in 2022. Interestingly, in tenth place was Östlund’s film, which last year was shown only as part of pre-premiere screenings. The interest in “In the triangle” must have been huge.

In May 2022, the film triumphed at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the most important award, the Palme d’Or. Charlbi Dean, who played one of the main roles, could enjoy success at that time. Unfortunately, the actress did not live to see the premiere of the production in cinemas. The young woman suddenly died in late August of bacterial sepsis, which was revealed by tests revealed nearly four months after her death.

Throughout the summer, the film was hosted at many film festivals. It was also one of the hottest premieres at the 22nd New Horizons International Film Festival in Wrocław. “In the Triangle” was released in cinemas in many countries at the end of last year, and in Poland it can be seen from January 6 in arthouse cinemas and multiplexes.
