The family ministry has been working on changes to the Labor Code for many months, which the EU directive obliges us to introduce. They should come into force as early as August 2022, but many comments were made that still needed to be worked on. All employees will benefit from the changes, but the number of additional days off will depend on individual situations. Who will get 35 days off and when will the changes to the Labor Code come into force?

Changes in the Labor Code are coming. Additional days off for employees
The changes that the family department is working on will probably please all full-time employees. Thanks to them, they can gain up to 35, depending on the individual situation of each employee. What changes can we expect?
- 2 days off for unforeseen situations – to be used when we cannot come to work due to “force majeure”. The employer will not be able to refuse them, and the desire to receive them must be reported no later than on the day on which we want to use the day off.
- 5 days of additional care leave – these days apply when we want to take care of a family member or unrelated person who lives with us and needs support due to serious health problems.
- 9 weeks of paternity leave – it can only be used by the father and there is no chance that he could transfer it to the mother of his child.
- Changes to parental leave – this one will be a bit longer. After the birth of one child it will be 41 weeks, and in the case of a multiple pregnancy up to 43 weeks.
When will the new regulations come into force? Change can happen really quickly
It turns out that changes in the Labor Code may happen sooner than we expect. As he determined, the formulation of new regulations is coming to an end. This means that there is a high probability that they will be considered on January 11 at the next sitting of the Sejm. If everything goes according to plan, the new reform would come into force in the first half of 2023.
