The Mexican actress Marta Aura, icon of cinema, theater and television, died; she worked with filmmakers like Alfonso Cuarón and Jorge Fons

Culture authorities in Mexico reported on Saturday, July 9, 2022, about the death of the actress martha auraat 83 years of age, and mourned the death of the actor, whom they described as a “tireless and recognized promoter of culture.”

“Her long career as an actress and a deep feeling of sadness leave us as a legacy,” Mexico’s Secretary of Culture, Alejandra Frausto Guerrero, said in a statement.

Both the agency and the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (Inbal) mourned the death of the actress, who since 2012 he was part of the National Theater Company.

The general director of Inbal, Lucina Jiménez López, affirmed that Marta Aura leaves behind her great recognition for her dedication to theatre, cinema and television.

“He never stopped working on what was his passion: the scene.” Likewise, she expressed his solidarity with his family, his colleagues and artistic communities.

The Ministry of Culture highlighted the “remarkable” contribution of Aura in the field of performing arts and teaching new generations “that will drink from the creative and generous spirit of the first actress”.

Marta Aura was born in 1939. For 60 years she dedicated herself to acting on the country’s stages.

She was the daughter of Olimpo Aura Pineda and Ema Palacios Ordorica. Besides He had two brothers, the writer María Elena Aura and Alejandro Aura, actor, poet and father of actress María Aura.

A graduate of the National School of Theater Art (ENAT) of Inbal, Marta Aura began her career in 1959 at the Teatro La Capilla, at the National Institute of Mexican Youth (Injuve).

He explored various genres and found in the monologue a recognition which led her to successfully present long seasons of, to mention a few, “La mujer rota” (a play she presented for 12 years) and “Mujer on the border”, which she successfully took to the stage, both in Mexico and in the United States. In cinema, he worked with directors such as Alfonso Arau, Jorge Fons, Arturo Ripstein, Felipe Cazals and Alfonso Cuarón. This year she received the Mezcal Award for Best Actress in a Mexican Feature Film for the film Courage (first film by her son Rubén Rojo), being acclaimed at the 2022 Guadalajara International Film Festival.

On television he made his debut in the telenovela “Acompáñame” in 1978. It was followed by soap operas such as “Quinceañera”, “Amor en silencio”, “Dance with me”, “La sombra del otro”, “Pueblo chico infierno grande”, “A light on the road” and “Secrets of the soul”, among others.

Since 2012 he became part of the stable cast of the National Theater Company and in 2019 she was recognized as a number actress. He participated in the productions: “El círculo de cale”, “Ilusiones”, “Códice Ténoch”, “A Soldier in Every Son”, “The great dead”, “We were three sisters (variations on Chekhov)”, “Homeridas ”, “This landscape of Elenas”, “Numancia”, “Proyecto Leñero”, “La panadería” and “El padre y memoria”, which allowed her to share part of her path as an actress with the public.

His most recent participation as a member of the stable cast of the CNT del Inbal was in the interdisciplinary production “Stravinsky 50”, by the Ensemble of the Center for Experimentation and Production of Contemporary Music (Cepromusic) and the National Theater Company, to commemorate the Igor Stravinsky’s 50th anniversary of death, within the virtual programming of the 49th International Cervantino Festival (FIC).
