Can a two-year-old go shopping alone? In Japan yes! The controversial reality show divided viewers

“Hajimete no Otsukai”, a controversial reality show, has been translated into “My first errands”. It sounds cute, but many viewers have doubts whether this show can really be considered cute. The formula is that tiny children aged 2 to 5 years old go on their first solitary shopping or other missions. The whole thing looks as if the child could not count on any helpand the viewer is entertained by his adventures. However, many reacted very negatively.

A hit in Asia, a controversy in Europe. Viewers wonder about the issue of safety

Although the program reached the Polish audience relatively recently, it has been recorded in Japan since the 1990s and is simply loved. According to estimates, every fifth Japanese watched it, and its popularity is not waning. Episodes are short and always follow the same scenario: a few-year-old is to go shopping on his ownlaundry, prepare food or take care of some other matter, and the whole trip is recorded by the camera. It can be a route to a small market, a shop, but also through the streets of Tokyo. Even public transport is included. The whole thing is supposed to give the impression that the child is on his own.

Asians laugh until tears, even if the child is completely confused, sits down on the pavement and cries. Meanwhile, one season recently introduced on Netflix caused an avalanche of unfavorable comments. And one of the key questions was: Is it safe at all?

In Asia, there is a completely different approach to children’s independence, which is why this program does not arouse controversy there. But above all, it raises blood pressure, and not only to parents. The truth is that the film crew takes care of the child’s safetythe entire route that the child is to travel is prepared, excluded from traffic, and the pedestrians passing them are members of the production.

When children take to the streets, they are always under the watchful eye of hidden cameras and the show’s safety team, whose members dress up as joggers, passers-by or gardeners – explains TBI Vision

Still the question of the child’s emotions raises doubtsbecause even if it is protected from speeding cars, the helplessness and fear it experiences are still real. And you never know if it will have any consequences in the future.
