Film screenings, forums, conversations and charity dinners: this is how the first edition of the guayafest 2022mentalized by the journalist and cultural manager Daniela Creamer and by Mauricio Carvajal (Colombia)with the support of the Municipal Public Tourism Company of Guayaquilled by Gloria Gallardo, as well as the Prefecture of Guayas, the academy and the private company.
“We are here because we all love cinema, a wonderful, one-armed, derisory medium, through which we manage to dream, identify ourselves, and even transform ourselves and be others, because a movie can change our lives.”, Creamer said this morning at a press conference.
Gallardo assured that history is going to change from now on, because “there is an important road ahead” to “turn Guayaquil and Ecuador into a cinema capital, into a cinematographic headquarters.
In addition to the actor Franco Nero and the singer Ornella Muttithe meeting with the press was attended by the Italians Mauro Malavasi, music producer; singer Antonella Bucci; politician and film director Claudio Bucci; Y francesca rendapart of the Italian Film Commission.
The Latin American representatives of the sample are Ecuadorians Carlos Scavone and Shany Nadanin addition to the Colombian actors Luis Velasco and Mabel Moreno.
This first edition has Italy as a guest country. That is how ten films of classic italian cinema will be screened as part of this meeting, including Accattone, by Pier Paolo Pasolini; the adventureby Michelangelo Antonioni; la dolce vitaby Federico Fellini; La moglie più bellaby Damiano Damiani, among others.
Three films will be presented each day starting at 2:00 p.m.; each will be preceded by a short film. The projections will be in the rooms of Supercines of Riocentro Ceibos and Riocentro El Dorado.
In addition, forums and conversations will be held that will address various topics, such as the impulse of cinematography from the Legislative, Ecuador as a hub for the audiovisual industry, productions on digital platforms, cultural promotion and new talents, among others. The forums will be held at the Hilton Colón, but will also be broadcast on the Guayafest YouTube channel.
The Ecuadorian quota will be led by the films Unseen, by Javier Andrade; yellow glasses, of Iván Mora Manzano; mother moon, by Daysi Burbano; Way to freedom, directed by Veiky Valdez; moon path, by Juan Sebastian Jacome Y the bad night, from Gabriela Calvache. Some of these films will also be screened at the room Mz14, University of the Arts.

Cinema law proposal in Ecuador
At a press conference, the prefect Susana Gonzalez He launched the idea of an Ecuadorian film law, the subject of one of the conversations at Guayafest 2022. “That law is needed, and this is the first of the initiatives that opens the discussion in the country of an urgent law, that film law, that opens not only the opportunity for the film industry, but for that industry that also grew those new professions that today do not have space”, emphasized González.
“We are raising awareness, because this is not an industry for the rich, but an industry for everyone, which reactivates everyone’s economy. This industry would guarantee not only tourism, but also the entire environment that it involves, from the smallest that participate to the graduates, but above all the non-graduates”, he added.
This was confirmed by Gallardo: “Let’s build that law together; Let’s go together to contribute to make this dream come true; Let’s go together to open the doors to all the talents, to all the creativity, to everything that exists in this city and in this country. I assure you that we will achieve it”.
Claudio Bucci, Italian director and politician, was one of the managers of the Italian film law. He came to the country to advise the development of the Ecuadorian film law, in order to “avoid the mistakes” that were made in the preparation of the law in Italy and, in this way, promote the development of the country’s film scene.
