Playback “Despacito”, mock Bocelli and strange costumes. New Year’s Eve mishaps of recent years

The New Year is behind the belt, but before we welcome it with family or friends, we are waiting for broadcasts, among others. New Year’s Eve concerts will be organized by Polsat and TVP2, which we will be able to follow live or in front of TV sets. Every year they are accompanied by months of preparation, but even the most scrupulous organizers and stars fail to avoid mishaps. We remember many of them to this day, although the negative emotions have already faded and they mainly evoke laughter. Let’s live this one more time.

“Despacito”, “Out Of Touch” and “Cheri Cheri Lady” from playback

Performances by foreign stars are a regular feature of New Year’s Eve parties organized by the largest Polish stations. Unfortunately, despite the high salary, not every artist has the courage to face their own repertoire live. Luis Fonsi, the author of the Latin hit “Despacito”, received half a million zlotys for his performance during New Year’s Eve, but he performed his hit … with playback. Internet users did not hide their disappointment and strongly criticized not only the station, but also the singer himself.

Not only Fonsi decided on such a controversial solution. Uniting Nations also used playback in 2017, performing a song from years ago – “Out Of Touch”. However, the lack of synchronization was even more evident than in the case of “Despacito”. Daz Sampson “sang” even the female parts, while his stage partner sometimes did not open her mouth at all. Viewers described the New Year’s Eve performance of the old hit as the worst playback in the world.

Less criticized is Thomas Anders of Modern Talking, who has been using pre-recorded live tracks for years, which is no secret. However, the performance during the TVP concert was equally disappointing for many. Fans defending the artist emphasized that for hearing Anders’ real vocal abilities, there is … a different price list.

It should be added, however, that not only world performers use playback. During New Year’s Eve, local celebrities also do it, e.g. Zenek Martyniuk, who was criticized not only for the lack of real vocals, but also for unconnected keyboards, the band Zakopower or Margaret, who performed a cover of Dua Lipa’s “New Rules” with a previously recorded backing track on the stage in Zakopane. Edyta Górniak, who had a cold, also asked TVN to provide playback, despite her undeniable vocal skills.

Controversial costumes

Many times the indignation was caused not by the performance of the songs, but by the styling chosen by specific artists. This was the case with the “Queen of Sylwester”, i.e. Maryla Rodowicz, who surprises with her creations every year and has been working with stylist Anna Zeman for years. She was responsible for the costume resembling a naked Brazilian dancer.

Ania has a crazy imagination, and I’m in it. I remember the measurements for this costume, I was all in sapphire and white ostrich feathers, feathers were everywhere in my house and my manager looked best driving this costume in the car. I wonder what a policeman would say looking into the car: “is that your costume?”. I could talk about my New Year’s Eve performances for hours. There was so much of it!

The singer also collaborated with the young designer Tomasz Armada, who designed a dress for her with numerous decorations, among which there was also a meaningful inscription referring to one of Maryla’s resolutions – “I will never die”.

The most controversial, however, was Natalia Nykiel’s rainbow jacket with the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe by Iwona Łęczycka, in which the artist appeared on New Year’s Eve 2019. Krzysztof Ziemiec.

“Polish Bocelli” and imaginary stars

In 2019, during the New Year’s Eve, a certain Pedro Santana appeared on the stage, who was created to be an international star. Those who did not know the name of the singer do not have to be ashamed of their ignorance – it turned out that the story of his great career was invented for the purpose of the event, and the only known person with that name was the former president of the Dominican Republic. The hosts, however, still maintained that Santana would perform “in the big hit from years ago”, “Opa, opa”. In fact, Pedro covered the old hit Antique, and the Venezuelan singer’s only contact with television was his participation in the Greek edition of “The Voice”, where he did not get very far. fans? You can forget about them. He only has 600 subscribers on his official YouTube channel.

In the same year, Polsat also failed. The New Year’s Eve Power of Hits was to be graced by Andrea Bocelli, and Krzysztof Ibisz was to personally pick up the tenor by helicopter. Finally, at midnight, the famous “Time to Say Goodbye” was performed by Małgorzata Walewska and … a disco polo singer, Czadoman, who previously played this character in the program “Your Face Sounds Familiar”. Although he was praised for his interpretation by both jurors and Internet users, this time the viewers felt cheated. Time will tell if this year there will be a celebrity who dares to dress up as Mel C.
